(in introduction)

Can't find anything on it in CAP regs.

That's over two years old...

And?

Still interesting even if it is over 2 years.  I did not know anything about it.  Curious about it as well.  What exactly was the purpose?  What is a "Bicycle Response Team" and its purpose?

Looks like it was a base security augmentee function for a specific event. There's an email address in the newsletter. Contact them for more info.

Looks like a one-day ride-along.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Oddly, I did a search prior to posting and found nothing.

I typed in bike response team and had 5 returns, none of which addressed this.  I typed in bicycle and had 30 returns with the 2nd one being mine.  I typed in bike and had 120 returns.  Primarily, people were talking about bikes and fitness.  Some were using a bike for ES or in reference to the restricting of ATVs for use.

So if it was discussed, then I would say do not blame the cadet for posting it as the search function seems not to be finding it.

Unfortunately, I noticed this on cadetstuff and here on CAPTalk.  Since a number of topics have been discussed throughout the years, a new person makes a post and is told already talked about.  In general, that is not exactly very welcoming for newcomers.  Further, the diversity of posters has dropped over the years.  It is now generally a handful of people that respond (unless it is something like a new CAPM 39-1).  Even then, it is mostly people that have been on here since CAPTalk started, not all but a lot.

Heck, I was searching for a topic about what Seniors do at Hawk.  I was curious and had thought about finally going after 15 years just to see what all the "talk" is about.  I found a posy where a new cadet got flamed by I do not know how many people for simply asking about the upcoming Hawk.  I know Hawk and Beret are sore points and know that you get a lot of trollers and know all the problems associated with those activities.  It is also not just those topics, other searches have found similar flamings.  I know topics get old and boring, but come on.

A person makes a post and the response he/she gets is simply "it is over two years old".  Whatever happened to basic respect?

The search function is very robust and comprehensive, you will find the etiquette on just about any forum is
to use is when you join to get a feel for the protocol and / or find information about topics already discussed.

It serves no one to re-open the same discussions over and over, especially topics with no actual answer,
just to rehash the same opinions.

And if you read what I wrote, I did happen to use the search button using three different terms. None of which seemed to bring up what this cadet had posted. The search button is not a be all end all function.

I read it - you were also referring to posts by single-digit members about HMRS, and other hot-button topics.
You don't have to work hard to find all you need to know about that stuff without re-asking the same question.

And so how was this cadet, the OP, hitting a hot topic button by posting a squadron's newsletter?

And so a person deserves to be flamed for asking a question?  Would not a simple, cordial reminder saying this has been posted about be adequate. Does a cadet really need to be flamed because some members have personal problems about an activity that is not within his/her control?

Would not it be better to rather develop and mentor cadets like professionals?  Would you accept, in person, if you saw four senior members verbally attacking a cadet?  Why should the internet be different in those interactions?

Which are you talking about?  The above, or some other threads?

If I saw 4 anyone "verbally attacking" a cadet another member, I would intervene.
If a cadet came to one of my meetings and wanted to randomly "show and tell" about a two-year old
topic that we'd discussed before, out of any other context, then I'd pretty much say in person what was said here.

"That's two years old, and we've talked about it before..."

If you consider the above "flaming", the internet may not be the place for you.

And frankly, I don't know that I've ever actually seen anyone get "flamed" here.  We have heated discussions, people make direct
comments, neither of those things is "flaming".
