There really isn't much to connect this to CAP except that I am a CAP member, but:
I have been all that I can be.
Tonight at midnight I enter the Retired Reserve, the end of a journey that began nearly three decades ago. I have had a good time. The Army has taken me to duty stations on three different continents. I have seen most of the United States and South Korea, some of Germany and more of Iraq than I cared to see. I have met some incredible people and had some jobs where I think I made a difference. I am a third generation Soldier and, watching Andrew's progress at West Point, I know that the family business is in good hands. I had a chance to fly Cobras and Hueys, too.
I appreciate the support that Karla has given me over the last 10 years. I know it was tough on her being left home for nearly five years of an eight year span. Her love never wavered. I love you, sweetheart.
I still remember the kid that left my parent's house all those years ago scared to death of what was ahead. Thanks Mom and Dad for your support, too.
To those still serving, keep your rotor RPM up and the greasy side down.
Thanks for serving.
You're about to discover that weekends are for relaxing! :o
I know I was amazed how much "spare time" I had once I retired form the Air Force Reserve after 31 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Now I just gotta make it to my 60th birthday so I can start cashing those retirement checks!
Welcome to the club.
+1: I made that trip on 13 Jul 87 and haven't regretted a day of the time that I served: 30 years, 1 month and 3 days. The checks every month are wonderful reminders of the people that I served with and the places that I saw. You will miss the comaraderie, the good times and you will soon forget the bad times. Pull pitch and move on, the world needs more people like you Jack.
From the Army's poster boy (for 9 years), thank you for your service. Hooah!

This right here, ladies and gents, is advice for life.
Just sayin'
Thank you for your service. We are a better country for having dedicated people such as yourself. Thanks for being all that you you can be. I've spent a few years being an "Army of One" myself.

Sir congratulations on making to the end, hopefully sane, in one piece and able to enjoy the twig blight years. Just finished 35 on April fools day and will wait a few more years to collect my change so I can get name brand cat food, a nice refrigerator box to live in and a new pair of socks :)
Congrats!
My wife always says that you can take the Man out of the Air Force, but not the Air Force out of the Man. In other words, you've still a Soldier, you just entered a new level of your service to our Nation.
It's still hard for me sometimes to realize that I retired in 1994 -- seems just like just yesterday I was a slick sleeve at Lackland, cowering from the TI...and then all those tours, deployments, and TDYs -- really, what an adventure it was.
Now to the new adventure...the VA!
Congratulations, and thanks! I retire after 8 active, and 12 Guard in just a few months, hard to believe, it went so fast....
Congratulations
Thanks, everyone.
And, yes, time certainly does fly.
