Title: Iran unveils next generation attack helicopters!!
Post by: Flying Pig on March 13, 2013, 02:28:20 AM
Iran unveils latest indigenous helicopter Toufan 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECFHlZT_yOc#)

.......AND........  Its a 1971 Cobra!  Funny.... I dont hear them cursing the evil Americans as they strap in to their "new" cobras!  I would imagine they have been retro fitted with Chinese or Russian made engines and avionics.

But not to be confused with the new attack helicopter, the Shahed 285 that bares a striking similarity to a....ummmm OH58?

I wonder how many Bell helicopters Iran had when the Shah was overthrown. Structurally, you are right. There is not much difference between these and  the Cobras of yesteryear. The optics look greatly improved and the cockpit seems to have been digitized, but the airframes are still flying symetrical metal rotor blades, which the US Army went away from decades ago in favor of asymetrical composite blades.

I hope Bell is getting royalties!!!

Well the US sold 200 of them to Iran back in the good ol days.  So whatever was left after their war with Iraq.  Ive heard the estimates are between 40-50 are operational.

I was honestly thinking the videos were going to be a little more like this video considering the theatrics of the regime in Iran

QuoteFirst, Iran said it would produce its own cinematic response to "Argo." Now, Tehran plans to sue Hollywood filmmakers who contribute to the production of such "anti-Iran" propaganda films.
State-run Press TV reports that Iranian officials have talked to an "internationally-renowned" French lawyer about filing such a suit."I will defend Iran against the films like Argo, which are produced in Hollywood to distort the country's image," said Isabelle Coutant-Peyre.
.. Pot. Kettle. Black. Too much Crazysauce in the mix. ;)  But they can produce propaganda aircraft.. made by people who failed at surfboard making.

They had several CH-47s, too. Word is some are still flying.

I honestly have no idea how.  Super Chucks were "new" in the late 1970s, but without a solid line of spare parts, I can't even fathom how you keep that much metal in formation.

I am not an aeronautical engineer nor do I play one on TV, but it kind of looks like the air intakes for that F-313 jet are oddly placed, shaped, and small? Also the whole plane looks like it is a homebuilt, 1/2 scale F-35!  Oh well it will probably be operational bfore the F-35 and signifigantly cheaper as well  >:D

They've actually gotten quite good at "Reverse Engineering".

Well, considering its a fake airplane built for propaganda..... youd be right that its a lot cheaper to operate. I thought if they were going to go all Hollyweird on us, Firefox would have been a better choice
