Congrats, 2d Lt! It takes a bit of getting used to the fact that cadets now stand when you enter a room.
BF's comments notwithstanding, I feel it never goes away. But the problem is, letting it get into your head...

Not a problem if you were a cadet officer. >:D

Congrats 2LT!
Now, is 2LT the
proper abbreviation to use? Or would it be 2d Lt? ???
Look it up and see.

I thought this was a CAP promotion and CAP uses the same abbreviations as the USAF.
What letter is missing, exactly?
Abd
Nope, PHall is right.
Look it up how is it in OUR service it is in CAPR 35-5!

Go check the AFI, the Air Force, for whatever reason dropped the "n".
It's been 2d Lt in CAP for a long time, but they can't make up their minds, either. It's 2Lt on the 1984 version of the F2.
I always use 1LT or 2LT

Well, for CAP use, you would be incorrect. 8)

That's the Army way of doing it. The Air Force has their way and CAP has their way.
If you're doing CAP stuff, then follow the CAP rules. Simple.
This is a public forum, its not a CAP doc.... so why am I wrong? I understand for doc purposes the AF wants to be different...
I'm used to the Army way (oddly even after serving 9 yrs AF), especially since I was an LT for a Security Company in my post-mil world.

Congrats 2LT!
This may be a public forum but the message was
directed to a CAP MEMBER on a forum
identified as a CAP forum so the wording should have been
2d Lt not the way the Army does, not the way the Navy does, not the way the USMC does, nor the way the USCG does.

This Internet forum stuff is serious business.

Yes, but did it involve drinks, in uniform? ;)

Simple question:
Did you understand what was meant by "2LT"?
If the answer is "Yes", then the writer achieved his goal of effectively communicating his message. Beyond that, who gives a flying ... that he didn't use some official abbreviation in some manual somewhere.
The purpose of written communication is to convey information from the writer to the reader. One method of doing so is to use standardized abbreviations. That is not, however, the only method for achieving the goal.
So, in summary, to those who are abbreviation nazis, I say:

Congratulations, Lieutenant!
