Hey fellow CAP members. I applied for NBB this upcoming summer and I was just wondering a few questions...
What is a realistic possibilty that I will be accepted. I am only a C/SSgt now, however I should be a Chief by the first week of July.
If I do get accepted, when will I find out, and what should I bring that's not on the packing list, and what shouldn't I bring that is on the list.
Also, I have completed the Aircraft Ground Handling, Basic and Intermediate ORM Tests, CAPF 101 (GES), and almost completed my ICUT training
Any information will be very much appreciated.

Grade is only one factor when determining the selection. Supposedly they use a algorithm to give each applicant a score based on several factors. (Age, Grade, Number of NCSAS attended, etc.). If you are listed an as alternate the best thing you can do is keep those two weeks open and be flexible. When I attended in 2011, we had a person cancel at the last minute. We called a cadet who was on the road for her family vacation. Parents turned around, packed her up, and put her on a plane for Oshkosh.

Bring everything on the list and don't bring anything else! That is what the list is for!

Don't forget the ICS classes!

1. You're just as likely to be selected as other C/SSgts of the same age and with similar experience/activity participation history. That being said, we had several C/NCOs in 2012, so don't expect to be denied just because you're not an Officer.
2. eServices says mid-march, be patient.
3. As far as the packing list, bring what's on it. Bring everything that's on it. Expect to use everything that's on it. As a TAC in 2012 I had Cadets show up with the $1 garbage bag that they bought at Walmart, and after their first use they were essentially useless. I'd recommend spending a little bit more and getting something that you can use more than once (I bought a few at Walmart for about $6 a pop during the activity, and my Cadets were very happy with them). The moral of the story is to bring stuff that's durable and will work for the entire activity.
Please feel free to post again or pm me if you have any more questions.
Thank you for the information. You anwered a lot of my questions and made me feel better about NBB
I'm in the same exact situation. Good luck! I'll be Tech Sergeant next week and I've only taken one ICS course. I would also try and go I a couple SAREXs and Airshows just to familiar with the different roles and stuff like that.
Hey, last year I was only a Tech Sergeant when I got selected, and I was a SMSgt while there. It was mostly officers, but I think that's because the people who are over 16 (and therefore eligible) are more likely to have spent a long time in the program and reached the officer phase. As for some tips:
-Bring lot's of money if you can, because there will be so much to see and do, and yes, buy, that you won't want to miss out. When you get free time at the airshow you'll also want to buy food (like the amazing ice cream they have), plus if you're going by plane you have to remember getting food at the airports, and you may have to pay extra for baggage (I say 'may' because apparently at the airport if you show them your CAP ID they won't charge you, but sadly I only heard about this secondhand :( ). If I were you I would start saving up as soon as you get accepted.
-Don't take the airshow for granted. Seriously, it's amazing, and you may not get that much time to experience it. The amount of time you get to explore the airshow is limited, and depends on your flight, the duties you get, and sometimes just pure dumb luck. If you get any time at the airshow, take the chance and see it. Probably the thing I regret most about Blue Beret is not getting enough time to see the airshow.
-When you aren't on duty, you'll be cleaning. It's inevitable, and if you try to get away from it, you'll probably just end up doing even more chores. If you already cleaned everything in the entire compound, well then its time to start all over again :P
-They give you a lot more food at every meal than you need, you don't have to eat it all.
-However, to the contrary, you'll get a lot less sleep than you need, so guard every second jealously, and never waste a moment of it ;D
-Don't do anything stupid that will make you lose your beret. It can happen, so just think about what you're doing, remember the oath and the honor code. You DO NOT want to be the one who went home without a beret.
And I'm not trying to sound like they'll take it away at a moments notice or anything; you should just know that they have rules for very good reasons, and they expect you to follow them. Just don't be the kind of person that thinks they're above the rules ;)
Anyway, the one thing that I can guarantee is that you're have an awesome time and make some amazing friends. Hopefully I'll see you on the compound this year!
This seems like fairly well rounded advice. I applied to go this year, and hopefully I'll get the chance to. From what I've heard, I have a lot of factors weighing in my favor. (For instance, I am over eighteen and this would be my first NCSA.) But nothing is certain in this process. Fingers are crossed, maybe I'll see some people there. ;D
