Title: Sandy Hook Shooting
Post by: Eclipse on December 15, 2012, 02:45:02 AM
Seems like something should be said, but I've got nothing to say.

Without trying to make this personal, its been a pretty rough afternoon.
Working from home has the disadvantage of access to a television all day,
which meant watching it unfold.

Seeing the President barely able to keep it together...

I have kids of the same age range in an elementary school in a quiet suburb.

Watching those parents...

During dinner the kids were playing a video of Amy Grant's "My Grown Up Christmas Wish".

I had to leave the table and take a moment in the bathroom...

Very sad situation.  No way to even comprehend it.

a quote from my my former pastor.....

Praying for those who died in CT and for their families, and for those who stared into the eyes of evil today and will never be the same...

This is very close to me; physically and emotionally. My wife works, and we worship, just up the street from that school.

I received a text from our squadron Chaplain this morning saying there was a shooting at a Newtown school, but he didn't know if it was his daughters' school. Please pray.

Thirty minutes later, he reported his girls were safe but there are parishioners with children in the school. I don't yet know if they're all okay.

My wife has been watching the news coverage, recognizing many patients as they picked up their children. Right now, there is a TV truck from NYC parked three houses down from me. I don't know why it's there, but it can't be good.

The state police have said they will announce the names of all the victims in the morning. The general mood around here is disbelief; everyone is still numb.

This hits close to home - we've been there with Columbine 12 1/2 years ago and with the Aurora shootings (just down the street from me) a couple months ago. I am absolutely sickened by this and by the media's incessant need to turn this in to a gun control debate before families had even been notified about the status of their loved ones and children.

I had to tell my 1st grader and 7th grade son's about what happened today and why the security policies in their schools were so important. It is absolutely wrong that my kids are afraid to go to school and we are afraid to send them there.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those effected by the horrific events of this morning.

I'm just numb to these things now. Nothing ever gets done/proposed besides a media blitz.

Remember when the worst thing in school was getting caught chewing gum. Now it appears to be getting caught in the line of fire. I'm glad our own children are through with school. Now I worry about our 11 grandchildren making it.
Let's not forget the safety forces too, the police, fire and EMS folks that have to get in there and sort out the victims.
Thoughts and prayers..................!

Yes, or even the internet in an un-overlord controlled environment. It's just .. with the Clackamas, OR thing earlier in the week and then this.

There's been stressful times when I can almost see what I can imagine would drive someone to this level, but .. think about the consequences for everyone else around that's left over.

Get help. Before it's at that point.
