Wow. Any reason for the angry tone and really harsh "rules" on the join page? Particularly (paraphrasing here): [Cue All-Caps] SEND ME EXACTLY THIS INFORMATION I WANT AND IF YOU DON'T OR MAKE A MISTAKE I BAN YOU FOR LIFE!"
Doesn't exactly look like an inviting group to me, as an outsider.
Maybe a little harsh, but there are more folks than you think out there that need the big verbal baseball bat. And even then, after seeing a very clear set of directions, some people will still choose to not follow them.

We don't do that in CAP. People need guidance but it doesn't have to be framed in a negative tone. "IF YOU FILL OUT THIS MEMBERSHIP FORM WRONG, OR DON'T DO EVERYTHING IN THE MANUAL RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM CAP FOR EVARRR!"
Ah, you must have read the new CAPR 39-2 that is going to be published on 19-Sept, 2012. ;)

I inherited the join page rules and I will review them. Thank you for calling them to my attention.
However, I understand the necessity for screening potential members. There are many spammers and fringe groups in health care. Our Yahoo group uses "evidence-based" medicine only and postings that do not conform to this standard are removed.
Thank you again for calling my attention to the issue.

What, in a CAP-HSO context, are you discussing where "evidence-based-medicine" would ever come up?

Nice. Looks much more inviting to new-comers than it was before.

Our motto at the CAP Health Services Yahoo Group:
"It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice".

I suggest you read the Yahoo group.
I was a member many moons ago, and it was basically two threads:
"Wouldn't it be cool if we could..."
&
"It's totally a bummer that we can't..."
Since HSO's and MO's can't treat CAP patients, nor do anything else beyond basic first aid, and that hasn't changed in a decade, nor is it likely to change in the foreseeable future, I can't imagine what might be discussed, especially if you have to limit it to "evidence-based-medicine", but the implication is
that there's a fair amount of non-CAP-related discussions, and members have tried to introduce alternative and new-age medicine. Knowing
some of the "ideas" our valued members have, it would not surprise me in the least.
I can just imagine the level of righteous indignation when their idea to mandate positive-ion bracelets to all the cadets are knocked back.
Whatever, more power to ye' all!
Evidence based medicine was consulted in writing some parts of the new Encampment Guidelines.

I'd love to know exactly where in that guideline there's practices based on evidence based medicine.
The sleep requirements and the use of energy drinks were the result of consulting evidence based medicine.

Good on 'ya if you were responsible for getting it into the regs, but most encampments have barred soda and caffeine as a matter of practice since forever, and lots already had sleep policies which mirror what was published.
