anyone ever been a part of misawa cadet squadron before? a small group of us have picked it back up after it fell apart. im looking for any information on anything related to us. especially what recruiting tools were used and what type of activities could be done here. we have some very motivated cadets and i would love to get them out doing things besides normal drill.im also looking for some recruiting ideas for on base. we did a segment on the bases home page and stuff like that and we had an open house but i want to know what worked well for you and what didnt work so well.
:clap: we were fortunate enough to get a C/TSgt that happened to be in misawa and had a good understanding of CAP. any info will help
I was the commander back in '89, before all this web and social media stuff, but I found out about the unit from a spot on the FEN TV station. It ran about every three months while I was there, and it helped recruit a few folks. Small posters on the school bulletin boards also work. (Get permission from the school, and have a senior member do the negotiating.)

I was the commander as well from 2004-2006. Get with FEN the Chief's Group, CGO, Top Three, etc. We tried to make sure that we had a table at the Monday Inprocessing Brief....nice captive audiance of new comers who may be looking for thing to do. Also get with the AFJROTC at Egrin High......CAP and AFJROTC can complement each other.
As for activiites....we did a lot of base tours, I took a van load of cadets to Yokosuka and toured an aircraft carrier....we took a ski trip to API, stayed in the cabins on the lake (owigawa?). We did the christmas card on Risner Circle every year. We did drill-a-thons. We did an enmpment (week end option). While you can't "do ES" you can do the training and sign off SQRTs. It is fun and useful information even if you don't get use it. Get with the Life Support guys....they can do surivival training for you and they have training ELTS and DF units.
The key to keeping the squadron going is to make sure that you get lots of senior members and start training your replacement NOW! don't wait until you got orders! Are you guys still in that little building next to the Navy Barracks/billeting?

yes we are still in the building behind the navy inn. its scheduled for demolition sometime in the future and we share it with 4 other offices but they all leave at 1630 so we have the building to ourselves at night.

What is FEN?
Do you think it might be possible to get a CAP van with GOV plates? That way we dont have to pay for tolls.
and lastly where did you guys do pt? it gets dark before we can finish the run portion.
If my old, gray, rusty head still works, FEN stands for Far East Network, the Armed Forces Radio and TV System.
Yes...FEN is the Far East Network of the AFRTS....it was that way for 20 years...which means that they have changed 20 times since I left in '06.
Talk to trans about getting a van.....we were able to borrow a van for special activities....including getting toll tickets. If that doesn't work talk to your squadron commander about using the squadron's vans....we did that a time or two as well.
We did PT in the hallway! When it got really wintery.....we would schedule a raquet ball court at the gym for the meeting night. The shuttle run option is exacltly for those places that don't have the facilities to do a mile run.
Misawa now has an indoor running track but that facility closes at 7pm, 30 minutes after we start our meeting. They've been nice a few times and kept it open past closing just for us to do our run.
Did we ever have a Squadron mail account at the post office or an email address?

You should be able to get a mail account at the post office......go through the Wing CC/CAP Liason Officer (which should have been appointed by the CC) to grease that skid. Same story for the E-mail and web page presense....or just go VFR direct to the comm squadorn.
When I was CC we had an organisational account at the post office.....that is I would check at the pick up window to see if we had any mail in our box in the back....we did not have a box up front like base residents.

Wonder when that changed. We had a regular box out front the whole time I was in the squadron. ('87-'89)

I've checked with the post office and we no longer have a unit mail box. I'm going with a non military email address so that we can check it from home computers without a CAC card.

Send in a Form 27 with the correct info, or, if you have the proper permissions, a lot of that can be changed in eServices using one of the restricted applications.

For overseas squadrons that should be the 27B and it needs to be routed to the Misawa AB Wing Commander (or his designee) for signature.
