Title: E-services renewal?
Post by: Major Lord on April 30, 2012, 05:12:28 AM
I have been trying to renew via E-services for awhile now, and its just locking up. Is this still an active option?

Just used it twice on Friday, my renewal and one of my room mates, and had no problem.

No problem the second week of April.  Already received ID card.

..and renewing more than 2 months out?

eServices usually has a visible counter showing how many days you have at the 2 month point.

I had two cadets come to me trying to renew, getting MS SQL errors after filling out the page and submitting with credit card information, earlier in the month.

"Call with this number, and they'll do it over the phone" .. fixed that.

I called the nice folks in Alabamastan and they renewed my membership the old fashioned way. Since they have eliminated the "Non-renewal" option, I guess I was not on the blacklist ( AKA, the scroll of the living dead....)  but perhaps they just wanted me to pay membership dues so they could have the fun of 2B'ing me for thought crimes against CAP! In truth, I have been too sick the last 2 years to do much with CAP, but with Remicade and Chemotherapy, I am felling well enough to join the squadron's active life again. I attended last Monday's meeting to watch some of "my" cadets awarded Milestones by the Base Commander. Even though I have not been around, I saw a lot of things that I initiated in the Squadron still survived, the one that surprised me most was that they still had cake cut with a Saber for Milestone awards. When I was CD-C, we won the Pacific Region Squadron of distinction, and had something like 70 cadets ( at least on paper). A bunch went off to active duty and Service academies, and we were at starvation levels. I was very happy to see we have 46 actual, living breathing, and present Cadets, and a fresh meat for the grinder lots of new S/M's to run the Cadet Program. We have active duty people from Travis to help us squeeze the base for support, and our ES guy is recent former Cadet, Solano SAR guy, and Air Force Reservist, so I feel I have walked back in at the beginning of a new Renaissance!

Oh yes, the nice lady at NHQ acknowledged that the renewal online system had been giving them fits for a while, so its not just us. Clearing the browser was not a cure.

Renewed two weeks ago online with no problem.  This was well after the upgrade.

Cutting cakes actually ruins a swords blade and finish. On active duty the first thing I was told by an old Gunny when I bought mine was "If there is a cake to be cut, let someone else volunteer his sword"

About 8 or 9 years ago, the local BIG 5 sporting goods had a bunch of Cavalry style Sabers, selling for 49.00 each. They went on sale for 19.00 each ( surprisingly, the need for Sabers seems to be minimal) I offered him 12.00 each for all he had, and ended up with a dozen. The blades are stainless steel, and probably not too good for slicing off limbs from horseback, but we had enough for a wedding. ( Also purchased two Moisin Nagant Carbines, and with the Bayonets cut off, they looked like mini-springfields. Firing pins ground off, fired case locktighted into the Chamber, and presto! Instant color guard rifles fit for the 3/4 sized adult!. The MOisons, in firing condition, sold for 49.00 bucks, but the manger cut me a deal when I told them they were going to be used for Cadets. Communist carbines now replaced with the chrome-style Garand drill rifles....  Most of the Sabers disappeared,  but we still have a few around for cakes. If we are ever authorized a CAP-Horse, we will see about putting an edge on one of the blades in case we want to get all Patton on someones butt!

I had a difficult time getting mine to work last weekend, although I was expired by a couple months. Couldn't even get into eServices, reset password, didn't work, tried the next day, worked, but renewal had the amount owed greyed out. Called NHQ and told them and she [sarcasm]politely took my credit card information.[/sarcasm]
