Being held at Westover ARB, MA this weekend.
NO drill teams this year. Seven Color Guard Teams
VERY interesting that New Jersey wing did not send any teams this year -- is there a story behind that ??? :(
The hosting squadron had a 'controlled burn" going for the supper meal on the grill -- only got the flame up to about 2 feet above the grill this year, got interesting when fire shot out of the side of the large grill next to control switch for one of the burners. They sent in one of their senior lst Lt's with fire proof gloves to turn it off. Too cold to eat outside so everything was brought into the base hanger. Although hamburgers & hot dogs were the grilled meal there was a family of rabbits living under the small pavilion so they could have also been grilling rabbits for those so into that type of meat. Hmm, maybe that was rabbit meat in some of those burgers ;)
The base visitors got a chance to watch a KC135 taxi & take off and later a C5 land & taxi to parking.
Reports so far seem to indicate the competition is stiff among all the teams with no one team standing out.

I honestly thought a "controlled burn" was a drill maneuver for a second... I need sleep.
The winners are:
First Place: Rhode Island
Second Place: Massachusetts
Third Place: Vermont
Northeast Region Commander and Massachusetts Wing Commander attended the presentation ceremony. The other six wing commander's that had teams at the competition did not attend.

WOW! How big a hanger do you need to hang a whole base? And where do you hang it from? A skyhook?
I'm on NJWG's CAC and I'm very involved with the wing, so the story goes something like this:
I think that two squadrons sent color guards and something went wrong with one of them and couldn't compete, so the other automatically took first place in the wing but didn't send their team up to MA... Or possibly only one team even gave it a shot and didn't even go up to MA.
Anyway, NJ's been having trouble getting many squadrons to send CAC reps, competitive color guard teams, and out of 641 cadets in the wing we can't set up a wing drill team. Also we just lost a big group of encampment staff members. :(
Hopefully we can build everything up again more sooner than later.
