Title: DDR presentations from college dorm room to squadron
Post by: FOgordo93 on March 26, 2012, 04:41:35 AM
I am currently in my freshman year of college for Law Enforcement. On top of being a full time student, I also work for the police department. So it's difficult to get back to the squadron and give my DDR presentations that are required. I was thinking about recording myself giving my presentations on video and emailing it to the squadron commander or deputy commander  for cadets and let them play the videos at the meetings. Thoughts, input, concerns?

I have google video chatted myself into the classroom at my squadron, from remote before.
Needs an internet connection, a laptop, and a projector.
You can put a cam on the squadron meeting end, if you want to see them back, but it's not required.
Speakers to make yourself loud enough to be heard by everyone.

Combine a vid/chat with a google docs presentation slides to scroll through
and a handout that i have someone there print out and pass around

it's like i'm there

haha

It might be beyond your means, but WebEx or a similar program is the standard for remote presentations these days.  I don't know any of them besides WebEx, someone else might be able to make a suggestion.

I don't think it would be too far fetched Tuesday.

You could also do something via live stream hosting sites such as livestream.com or justin.tv which many use to broadcast various things such as their music making, gaming, etc from their desktop to anyone who wants to connect.  Some places such as justin.tv will also keep on to your broadcasts for a specified amount of time (justin.tv is 7 days) so you could even record it before hand and just send the link.

FOgordo93, your region, and 4 wings within it,  just signed up for GoToMeeting for this exact purpose.

Check up the chain for access and procedures.

I've also been thinking of making a video briefing to send back to the squadron. I'm currently out of the country but want to contribute. Due to time differences live conferencing wouldn't work. I've thought of maybe doing a presentation about the USAF's relationship with this country, past and present. They have a pretty good air museum and static display not far from my location. I think that topics covering the day-to-day running of CAP are best left to face-to-face briefings.
I'll shoot my CC an email and get his input.

Take lots of pictures of said museum. That'd be cool, also.

If that doesn't work out, GoToMeeting is available for $50 per year at Tech Soup.
