Title: Starting AFJROTC
Post by: cadetesman on March 02, 2012, 11:10:27 PM
Hello, I'm looking into starting AFJROTC at my high school, which currently has no JROTC.

I know that there are enough people interested.

Anyone on these boards have any connections to active duty, recently retired or AF reserve NCO's and officers who could be instructors?

PM me for location details

Thanks,
C/Ssgt

Does the school admin and district want a unit there? And if they do open a unit there the ASI/AASI will come from other schools.

See the AFJROTC page about starting an unit: http://www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/AFJROTC/ApplyforUnit.asp (http://www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/AFJROTC/ApplyforUnit.asp)

Start a Civil Air Patrol School Squadron its a better program, as you should know by now. You will be graduated from High School before AFJROTC is up and running. Further the CAP Cadet Program is 90% more valuable to your career than having AFJROTC on your resume. Think of this way, how many Airplanes does AFJROTC own? ZERO!

But AFJROTC cadets can get O-flights.

Isn't that just AFROTC?

Nope. We fly the cadets from our local high school JROTC.

Subject to AFROTC funding of those O-flights, which is generally lacking in comparison to CAP O-flights.
There are also restrictions to AFJROTC-CAP Oflights.  For example, AFJROTC cadets only get one flight, and it doesn't matter if they are sitting up front or in the rear.

If you are a HS freshman now, you might not even see a AFJROTC program at your high school until you are a freshman in college with all the hoops you go to go through.  Looking at the AFJROTC website, which hasn't been updated since last year, but going on that information, if you submitted a package today, it won't be for another two years before you might see something moving.

If you start a CAP flight you only need a minimum of 8 members (three must be Seniors), squadrons require a minimum of 15 members.
