Title: Mini Indoor Helicopter Flying Cadet Aerospace Education?
Post by: RADIOMAN015 on February 19, 2012, 09:26:56 PM
Anybody every used the mini helo series of helos for indoor use only flying as part of the cadet aerospace education "fun" type activity ???

Examples of what I am referring to is at:
http://www.hobbytron.com/MiniRCHelicopters.html (http://www.hobbytron.com/MiniRCHelicopters.html)
Please note I am NOT endorsing this company just using it as an example.

This afternoon down in my man cave I've been flying around my Mini Apache Indoor Flying Helicopter  (Propel RC www.rooftopbrands.com (http://www.rooftopbrands.com) Collinsville IL) with very good results/not very many crashes.  (I'm hoping the chief Air Traffic Controller will allow me to bring it up to the living room vaulted ceiling area IF I can finally persuade her that I am a now a safe flyer ;) ).    Basically the helicopter is fairly durable (but made in China) but the last one I had I bent the rotor shaft and it can only be used for parts now.

Anyways it seems like a lot of fun and perhaps even a little competition/skills course could be set up inside a classroom (or hanger area) for the cadets to try to master.  Of course overall costs & durability of the equipment need to be taken into consideration.

Not a bad idea. Fun way to discuss aerodynamics. Just make sure they do the classroom part before they are let loose and auger them into walls and floor  :)
