Title: I've seen low
Post by: davidsinn on January 28, 2012, 02:18:33 AM
I've seen low, and I've heard of LOW but this (http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/Stories/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/325/language/en-CA/Lower-than-a-Snakes-Belly-in-a-Wagon-Rut.aspx) takes the cake.

But it's not too low. Too low is when there are pieces of folage stuck to the leading edge of the wing! 8)

You know, I have the autograph of the guy that (actually) buzzed the tower in Top Gun, former Navy pilot and Space Shuttle Astronaut Scott Altman. Cool guy.

While it doesn't precisely qualify as a "low pass," it was supremely scary the first time I had a Chinook hover over the CONNEX I was crouched on top of for a hook up.. 20,000+ lbs of aluminum and noise will make you question your decisionmaking abilities for a few seconds.

Of course, the kind and gentle soul of PFC Sal Savia, our mentor in this endeavor, didn't help: "You [redacted] wanna learn how to hook slingloads? You must be about [redacted] crazy... "

I got pretty good at it for a while... until my buddy almost got crushed one night cuz the company FEI let a guy who wasn't even checked off for day slingloads call an NVG load without supervision. That sorta put me off to letting a helicopter hover over my head like that.

The cadet is wise.

It's one thing to do something stupid with a multimillion dollar jet when you're the only one that can die if you screw the pooch, but this moron would have taken a dozen other people with him if he tapped the ground.

Well maybe they had a really intense safety briefing beforehand about possible hazards...  >:D
