Good to see that a former national commander is doing great things in a state legislature!

It is truly gratifying to see our cadets and CAP get such positive recognition by a state legislature.  Teenagers seem to always be getting a bad rap in the news.  I know locally we've tried to get the "good news" out on what our cadet teenagers accomplish themselves as well as assisting the community.

Monday was Military, Veterans and MIA/POW Appreciation Day at the Colorado State Capitol. Colorado Wing, as part of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, participated. Wing Commander Col Sherwin was introduced at a morning reception hosted by The Adjutant General, Maj Gen H. Michael Edwards, and attended by military leaders and legislators. Afterwards the Senate and House opened their daily sessions.

Cadets from Valkyrie Cadet Squadron, whose names were entered into the Journal for the record, led the Pledge of Allegiance in the House. The Senate joined the House in its chamber and several joint resolutions were introduced, the first of which, House Joint Resolution 12-1005, mentions Civil Air Patrol. Among the guests in the House were two Tuskegee Airmen from Colorado. In their remarks honoring the military and veterans, several legislators talked about having seen the movie "Redtails" with their children.

For those really interested, audio of the House proceedings is available here:

The cadets are introduced at 8 min 30 seconds and reading of HRJ 12-005 starts at 21:30.

Military Appreciation Day is an annual event in which COWG participates. CAP Day, a biennial event, will be in March or April, and cadets will present the Colors and lead the Pledge in both chambers. Displays are set up in the rotunda and cadets and seniors are present to answer questions. One year a glider was setup in the rotunda.

Kickoff for Wreathes Across America was last month at which the Governor and TAG spoke. The Governor issued a proclamation for CAP's 70th Anniversary and CAP cadets were VIP escorts at the Governor's inauguration last year.
