You would be a basic cadet just like all first timers.

It's not that uncommon. I went to my first cadet encampment as a C/TSgt when C/MSgt was the top of the cadet NCO grades.

I picked up 3 Long Island (NY) cadets for an RIWG Encampment and they were 2 C/SMSgt and a C/CMSgt.

I attended RIWG Ground Search and Rescue school as a 1st Lt and had cadet instructors. I respected the fact that they had the knowledge I wanted.

You will be an inflight cadet for the week. Think of it as a refresher course and a test of humility. You did learn followership on your way to C/MSgt, right?

It is very possible you will be a higher grade than your flight sergeant. He (or she) has been thru basic encampment and impressed the selection committee. Highly likely you'll learn from them.

CAP is unique as grade does not always reflect position. A 1st Lt can command a squadron with Lt Col. members.

You will have a great time and earn the credit so you can get your Mitchell.

One of the cadets in my Basic Encampment flight was a C/CMSgt.
...and he was treated just like every other basic cadet. The same will probably be true for you. Some of your experience will help you in Encampment, and in other things, you will be just as much a rookie as everybody else.
Hopefully your experience in the Cadet Program will help you at Encampment, and you will have just as good a time as everybody else at the Encampment!

With your experience in the Cadet Program, do the best you can to help your Flight Officer and Flight Sgt with the folks in your flight.  Realize this is a great opportunity for you to lead while following.   Be studious but also teach the less experienced cadets.

I went to basic encampment as a C/CMSgt. I outranked my flight sergeant as well. Don't let that get to you if it happens. Be humble.

Expect to be treated the same as all other "basics" Also. don't be surprised if the staff expect more out of you. WIWAC staff member, I expected the higher ranking cadets in the flight to help the younger/ newer cadets out. I also held them to a higher standard. At the encampments I've been to, there has always been at least one C/CMSgts- C/MSgt basic per each squadron. Also, the encampments I have been to had the "no rank among basics ideology"

+1

Also, with respect to the "expect more out of you," I think that the staff will initially come to expect more out of the higher ranking basics, but then ask the "high-speed" cadets (regardless of grade) to help out the other cadets in flight.
Just my experience.

Here's my expectations of a C/CMSgt attending encampment as a Basic.
That they will be helping the other members of the flight much more then you would expect of a C/A1C or C/SrA.
They're older and have more time in the program and should have much more experience in teamwork.

You'd get bugged by all the airmen... "y u a chief??"
just tell them you have a rare medical condition called Ididnotgotoencampmentbeforenow.

Don't sweat it, I count 7 chiefs going to FLWG winter encampment...  (as basics)
Two are gunna be in my flight...  >:D

Went to my first encampment in 1979 at Chanute AFB as a six stripe master sergeant. Had a blast! Of course all the cadet staff were officers. I remember my bunk were Larry Mills from Clinton-Scott Composite Squadron at Scott AFB and a kid named McCoy from a Chicago squadron. My flight leader was c/1stLT Tracy Gould.

-Ate apples off a tree outside our barracks on firewatch with a kid whose family had escaped from East Germany.

-My first task after I got there was to go with my flight leader and 2-3 other cadets and steal a matress from another barracks.

-Put a bra on our squadron guidon one evening.

I could probably write a novella about the stuff that went on that weekend and it seems like it was yesterday but it was over 32 years ago.

Well, sometimes it is financial reasons, or they couldn't find a ride (I was almost going to skip winter encampment, because of this[having no ride]. I would've been a chief by the time Summer rolls around)

And I ain't scared... See what I did there? I used redneck slang to show I am tough enough to go to encampement.  8)

Hey all I have to say is if you go to Encampment as a C/CMSgt. you will be relied on much more and the younger cadets will ask you some questions. Suck it up and have fun!
