Title: Airlines For America
Post by: ProdigalJim on November 28, 2011, 09:00:15 PM
The U.S. Air Transport Association, the umbrella trade group for U.S. air carriers, is changing its name to "Airlines For America." No, I'm not making this up...they filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the term, registered a URL with that name in September, and are having a drinks-and-cheese do here in DC later this week to announce it.

I wonder if they'll get a cease-and-desist letter from NHQ about "causing brand confusion," and so forth?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Good for them!  The old name is a bureaucratic description. The new name is aspirational. You can't even say the new name without basically admitting that airlines perform a vital public service and are accountable to the America people.

"Civil Air Patrol" on the other hand is as stale as "U.S. ATA" was, but even less honestly descriptive of the organization. Our name alone implies we spend most of our energy patrolling the air.

I admire the "Airlines for America" leaders for their boldness. Somehow I doubt CAP would ever dare disturb the universe.

I've always thought the name Civil Air Patrol was weak and reminiscient of the 1950's. I can see the newsreels in my mind:

"Join the Civil Air Patrol and Do your duty for America! And while you're at it, enjoy a nice Lucky Strike, remember, Lucky Strike means fine tobacco."

Civil Air Patol....What would you rename us?  (Let the games begin)

I liked his sentiment that's why I didn't point out the spelling error.  :)

+1

If we'd be more of full time Aux-on status, I'd be willing to accept an extra L in the spelling. lol

That way we'd have something in reserve when we wanted to give 'em L ...

(I can never resist a good pun)

One of our favorite ways to torture our children when they were little was for my wife and I to engage in pun wars on long car trips. The boys would sit in the back groaning and begging us to stop, while my wife and I would compete to see who would be unable to complete the "volley."

I figger if I'm going to Hell anyway, I may as well not have to wait on line...  ;D

I'm happy. That disgusting shell of a human being Muhammad Atta does not deserve to even share similar names with an airline organization. Incase you do not know who I am talking about, Muhammad Atta was the pig who crashed a plane into the WTC.
