In the late 1960's the Oregon Wing started a ground search and rescue program, called the Rangers. They trained once a month in rock and cliff, survival, search and rescue techniques and first aid. Graduates were entitled to wear a Ranger patch and wear a red beret. The program was approved under the tutelage of then Oregon Wing Commander, Hall of Honor inductee Colonel Obed "Pancho" Donaldson.

Wow! The Ranger uniforms have really changed since then. Now, all we get is an orange cover with either a red or black Keystone on it. We also get either a red, black, or white belt and a red, green, yellow, gray, or black scarf. No fancy berets now.

The Oregon Wing Ranger program should not be confused with the Pennsylvania Wing Ranger program. Totally different programs.
