Good Morning all, as today is memorial day, I thought I would take the time to ask everyone if your squadron participates in any ceremonies/parades for the day. IE:Brockton Composite Squadron usually marches in a local parade and attends the parade's speech and ceremony afterwards.
I understand that some members of our unit (SER-GA-153) participate in a parade in a nearby town; others of us met at one of the local cemeteries to put flags on the graves of veterans. It was a very moving event ... when I get the photo from those who took such, I'll post a shot of cadets, seniors, and me at the grave of a Medal of Honor winner from Vietnam.

I just got back from Willamette National Cemetery, where they have 110,000 veterans buried. We had a service there. There were about 500-600 people attending.
Thank you to all that have served or are still serving, and especially to those that never made it home.
CAWG Holds an annual ceremony at Gill Rob Wilson's grave site:
Details from today's event:
GILL ROBB WILSON MEMORIAL CEREMONY
30 May 2011 at 1300 hours Forest Lawn Covina Hills
Special Guests:
MajGen Amy Courter – CAP National Commander
The Reverend Jill Paulson – granddaughter of Gill Robb Wilson
All members of Civil Air Patrol are cordially invited to join us on Memorial Day 2011 to honor Gill Robb Wilson and our fallen Civil Air Patrol comrades.
Since 1974, members of Civil Air Patrol have held a memorial ceremony each Memorial Day at his grave at Forest Lawn Covina Hills.
My squadron marches in a parade that has multiple stops for speeches and ceremonies (wreath-laying, etc.) at the gravesites of veterans
My wife's squadron provides personnel to support the local police department to close off streets for our county's Memorial Day parade. It's a great ICS and communications exercise too.
Nothing but compliments from the community. Good stuff! :)
We took some of our cadets to the American Military Cemetery in Luxembourg where 6000 American soldiers are buried who died in the Battle of the Bulge 1944-45 here in Luxembourg and Belgium. Also General George Patton is buried there.

Most of our cadets who came with us are the newer cadets. The senior cadets went with the base High School on a trip to Normandy.
All the best from Europe.

As the Master of Ceremonies for the 37th annual Gill Robb Wilson Memorial Ceremony, here are a few more details:
Almost 100 members attended the ceremony under beautiful California skies. Besides General Courter and the Reverend Paulson, also attending were former National Commander BGen Howard Brookfield, Region Commander Col Larry Myrick, former Region Commander Col Ernie Pearson, California Wing Vice Commander Lt Col John Findley, two former wing commanders (besides the national and region commanders who are former CAWG commanders) and three of the seven group commanders.
We presented two Wilson Awards at the reception. There were at least 15 members present who had earned the Wilson Award.
a2Capt, if you attended the Gill Robb Wilson Memorial Ceremony, sorry I didn't get a chance to speak with you.
Our squadron prepared our Color Guard to march in the towns Memorial Day Parade on Sunday. However, once we were done practicing and went to the staging are, there was no parade!!! The town next to our had it on Sunday, and our town was on Monday! What a mix up. At least the cadets were able to train together!
Some of the squadron was quite active.
3 young senior members placed over 500 flags on grave sites to meet the call one local city (old veterans couldn't do it any more).
Color Guard attended a church service to post the colors
Color Guard participated in local community event, moved inside school gym due to weather conditions.
ES UDF/GT & Radio Comm supported mission in western, central & finally eastern part of state early/late evening.
Quite a CAP day.

On Saturday our squadron helped placed flags at the West Tennessee Veterans cemetery we also provided a color guard for the opening ceremony. We provided a Color Guard for the Memphis Redbirds Game which is a minor league baseball team in the area. On Monday a few members attended a ceremony at the cemetery and a couple of us were put to work driving golf carts throughout the cemetery.
Yes, yesterday my squadron and another one marched in a parade/attended a ceremony.

Charlie...Bravo Zulu for coordinating and serving as Master of Ceremonies this event. BTW- you looked dashing in your WWII era Civil Air Patrol uniform. 8) There was an excellent representation from throughout the CAWG -- seniors and cadets alike. The reception was super....what a great time to acknowledge the members who attained the GRW award as well as those who received 50 year/Life Membership awards. Appreciate all your hard work in putting this together. On another note, the pictures of GRW throughout his life that were shown to us by the Rev Jill Paulson (who is now a CAP member and an applicant to be a CAP Chaplain) were wonderful.
Just prior to Memorial Day, our cadets placed flags on all veteran graves in the local cemetery.
On Memorial Day, I was one of the speakers at the local ceremony, along with a staffer from our Congressman, our State Representative, a couple of City Councilors, and the commander of the local DAV chapter.

I wore my CAP uniform for the Memorial Day ceremony on Kwajalein. The world didn't end, people didn't freak out and I even got several compliments from the active duty Army personnel on the island, including the commander, COL Gaines.
