I'm looking into attending the Space Command Familiarization Course at Patrick AFB, probably next summer. Could anyone who has attended tell me what it's like? What's the daily schedule like? Is it more like an encampment (high-stress) or an academic-type course?
Thanks.
I have staffed the Vandenberg AFSPCFC and my old DCC runs the one out in Colorado. They all have the same philosophy, it is designed to teach you about the space business and specifically how the AF fits into the picture. It is primarily tour-based with some free time for other fun activities in the area. It is not a strict training environment like encampment. You will definitely see things that you wouldn't normally have access to. Let me know if you want to know anything else! Good luck!
Thank you! I read on the NCSA site that you had to have the model rocketry badge.. is this still true? Did you have to get it? How long did it take you to get it?
If rocketry is offered at your unit it is required...it is building some rockets....taking some tests. It is a great learning experience. If your unit doesn't offer it...go to CP materials and read up on the rocketry section. I am a senior member I did not have to get it, but I do have the ultimate rocketry badge so they gave me a pass. It took my cadets about a month to get it.
"Complete the requirements for the "Cadet Rocket Badge" if offered at your unit."

Define "offered at your unit"... Is it "my unit has a rocketry program that I can just sign up for and complete" or "I ask up the Chain to institute a rocketry program if one isn't offered"
Sorry for being so annoyingly nitpicky- I just really want to do AFSPCFC!
Your unit has offered it in the past... I don't remember If anyone managed to complete it and get the pocket rocket, but it was offered.

Ok, thanks. I'll ask around at the squadron for any dirt on it.

ICBM Ops badge.
AKA the 'prairie submariner' badge... victors in the Cold War! 8)
Maybe in Minot...but cave pilot or mountain submariner might work better. ;D
