Title: Logbook for CAP Ground Teams
Post by: GTCommando on May 11, 2011, 02:29:53 PM
I saw this on Vanguard and was wondering, has anyone used it?

What is it, exactly?

It is a hard-cover book for keeping track of your ground-ops mission participation and training - similar to a pilot's log book.
It's a good idea to track this stuff, but I just use a Google spreadsheet.  The one nice thing is that you can have any SET
or other supervisor you worked with sign the page.

We've had a bunch sitting in a drawer since the bookstore days.

our ground team just uses a composition notebook. There's no need for a fancy little black book

Eclipse, thanks for the info. I was just preparing to order some uniform items for encampment when I saw it. Just wondering if it was anything worth paying $13.00 for.

I have one, and I use it. It leaves a lot to be desired, and one wonders if it was even created by a ground team person.

I was disappointed as well, which is why they are still sitting in the cabinet after 10+ years.  I have a scan of the pages
around here somewhere, will post when I find it.

This book is meant for individual GTMs not for the team.  But, really anything could be used for this purpose.

I used to use these all the time when I was doing field work on my full-time job, and I keep one in my 24-Hr pack (along with my GT Reference Text, of course) -

At least you don't have to worry about it falling apart in your hands when the weather conditions turn sloppy.

+1 on Rite in the Rain, though you either have to use their pen or a regular pencil - regular pens that I have tried don't work.

I created a digital logbook in Excel to keep track of both my ground team and aircrew participation.
It's come in helpful many times and I'd strongly recommend that all ES personnel keep track of their mission participation in some way.

I based the spreadsheet on the the aircrew and ground team member logbooks sold at Vanguard. (Special thanks to SarDragon for sharing scans of the pages)

The cool thing about the sheet I made is that it is a single Excel workbook with two worksheets so that everything is in the same place.

It's posted in the Downloads / Emergency Services / Training section of the MSWG website if anyone wants to take a look.

Not only that, but I have heard that CAP members must submit a picture of their BDU blouse showing the HMRS ranger tab before they are allowed to purchase one or more of the "SAR" versions.

I kid, I kid.
