Looking at this made me wonder aloud about the upcoming FEMA R5 exercise. In my area, it seems that a number of non-CAP entities have already gotten their 'marching orders' related to a late-spring New Madrid exercise. I am told we are sending some Wing staffers to have our meeting with the planners in the next week.
Any other Wings already spun-up on this topic? INWG? KYWG?
Looking to see what you folks have in the planning....or sharing the tribal knowledge on the briefings.

That's just a little tiny one.
Here's what I live with. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqscanv/FaultMaps/116-33.html
I live just north of where it says [L]a Mesa by the lower left edge.

Y'all have 7 quakes on your 2 degree square rolling 7 day map, for an average of 1/day. My map currently has 128, for an average of 10/day.
CAP, to the best of my knowledge, didn't do anything during the 7.1 Easter 2010 quake, down in the lower RH corner. That big yellow square is a 4.1 on the 13th that we never even felt. The lowest count I've seen since Easter is about 60. The count right after Easter was approached 2000 at one point.
Happy Shakin'!
Missouri CAP is pretty intricately tied into the state 'cracked earth' plan, with auto-launch missions under various conditions. New Madrid has been grumbling lately, nothing unusual or whatever, but "one day" (geologically speaking) it will go big.

TNWG is deep in planning response as well.
I do not believe INWG is playing for this one.
If I recall correctly, if was briefed that INWG is tasked to play a part in the May exercise.

May is also our SAREVAL so it's going to be a busy month apparently.

Roll 'em together. The NMSZ Exercise is SAR and DR rolled into one, evaluate capabilities for both at once.

The AF runs the eval so that probably won't happen.

I thought they were talking about this at INWG conference, but I may be thinking of something else.

I couldn't get down to the conference this year. I know there is a SAREX in April right in my backyard to prep for the eval and then the eval is in May, again in my backyard. :D Beyond those two events I don't know what's going on for ES at the wing level.

I may try to get up north for that so I can get some sign-off missions. I'll have to see how the work schedule goes.

Come on up. This thing is going to be less than 8 miles from my home so I know the area very well... >:D

We'll see how my work schedule looks. It's not as far as the one in Evansville next weekend, that's for sure. I do need some training missions for MO, MSA, and MRO.
Seems like INWG has hijacked this thread. Here's some clarification for the folks in IN.
INWG will be participating in the New Madrid exercise, but I don't have any details on our involvement. The Eval Prep is in April, the Eval Table Top is in May, and the actual Eval Mission is in June. We also have the exercise with IN DHS(?) in May at Camp Atterbury. This might be related to New Madrid, but again, I'm not up on that one.
Hope this clears things up.
As far as MROs go, I'm the CUL for Evansville and the Eval-related missions. I can always use operators.
Just to bring it back...

I think you are correct about the exercise at Atterbury being related to New Madrid. I believe it is in March, but I may be wrong.
I'm told that the FEMA gig is late- April, or early May. No idea of scope of our involvement yet in ILWG.
Just random info for those interested.
The FEMA National Level Exercise regarding the New Madrid Eartquake Zone is 16-20 May. CAP is a player but unclear of the extent of actual deployments yet. Some resources are expected to be deployed, others will likely be heavily involved in table top exercises. This is a national level exercise that envolves 4 distinct FEMA regions and 4 CAP regions. http://www.shakeout.org/downloads/nle_factsheet.pdf, http://www.ready.gov/nle2011/index.html. I believe Indianna is holding another seperate exercise, don't remember the date.
The Great Central US Shakeout is 28 April. It is more of a public awarness exercise than anything else, however some CAP Regions may use this and other dates for pre-NLE exercises.
I have been told to expect a fairly heavy amount of communications involvement with the various exercises.
Best wishes,
David Hester, ALWG/DC
I don't know about Indiana Wing CAP.....but the State of Indiana is taking part in NLE 2011.
