Title: Senior Member Recruiting Brochure -- Time Requirements Unrealistic?

Can most CAP members assigned to a squadron position really get what needs to be done in a weekly two hour meeting block :-\ ???

I must be doing something wrong cause it takes me longer than 2 hours per week to do what I have to do for CAP, and usually can't get much done at squadron meetings.

Shouldn't we be more realistic right up front with ANY perspective senior members as to the amount of volunteer time that really is going to be required for the specific squadron position we will be asking them to fill as well as the other training requirements just to fly, participate in ES, etc   :-\ ???

The BSA says "Just an hour a week is all we ask.." it's marketing 101 ;-)

Hook 'em, then let 'em figure it out.

If all you are depending on for recruiting and retention are brochures, you are in a precarious position indeed.  You sell what you go, invite people to the meetings, let them meet the people, show them what can be shown and let the program sell the program.  If they like what they see, they join and add to it, if it is too much or not what they want...then let them find their service elsewhere.

Marketing tools are just that...things to promote the basic interest.  Again, don't depend on some paper, brochure or poster to do your job for you.

From what I have seen there isn't a single brochure that shows or tells a single thing about CAP other than we have pilots and uniforms and we have other people that do other things. They never say anything about what "those other people" really do at all. The only thing that I use brochures for is phone numbers and websites. What helps prospective members is talking to them about what CAP is and does. If you have an unmanned recruiting booth you don't have a recruiting booth at all. If the member that is at the booth is just sitting there saying hi to everyone that passes is just wasting time. The brochures just aren't worth much without the knowledged member there to explain things more and to show them that there is more.

It depends on what staff position you're dealing with.  There are quite a few where you could probably get by with a couple of hours a month and still do the job well.  Definetely not the case for a few, particularly ES and Cadet Programs.
