I went to take the chapter 4 test last night...
I studied for hours from my 21st Century Leadership book. I could practically recite some of the paragraphs. I then went to take the test.
I failed. Horribly. As it turns out, the test was out of the Learn to Lead book, which i have not received from National, or any advisory from National that the online tests were from the Learn to Lead and not 21st Century. Now i am locked out for 7 days, and while i was able to find Learn to Lead online, it does me little good right now.
I would like to advise people switching to online testing...
PLEASE USE THE RIGHT BOOK!!!
Do not make the same mistake i did... it was painful.
Also, does anyone know where i could get a free copy of the Learn to Lead texts? A hard copy?

I feel your pain. This has happened to a few of my cadets already. I have looked but I haven't seen anywhere for you to get free books. I think they are $3 at vanguard but you can get a digital version for free from the national website.
Contact your DCC, he/she can reset your test for you (if he/she so chooses) and let you retake your test before the 7 days.
Remember if you take the new online test, you also have to take the new drill standards test.

Cadets who came in before the implementation of online testing aren't going to receive the L2L texts. If you want one for free, or close to it, you'll have to print out the one online. Otherwise I imagine that Vanguard has them for sale.
Quote from: Online Testing ModuleCadets, ensure you have studied the material. For example, before attempting the Achievement 1 leadership test, read Chapter 1 of the new textbook thoroughly. The texts can be found online here.
Emphasis mine. Obviously that's not a very clear and obvious way of saying that it's L2L and not 21st Century, but it is technically there. Additionally, you're Cadet Programs staff should have made it clear that the online tests are only for the new L2L curriculum. As a cadet under the "old" text, you have a choice of testing under the old material or switching to the new material. However, once you switch to the new material, there is no going back to the old material.

Not exactly true. Cadets joining before 1 July can switch back and forth between the new and old curriculum as much as they want. It just makes the Milestones rather inconvenient for them once they get there.

So after rereading the cadet blog, you seem to be right. However, once you get to the milestones, it's all or nothing. Either you take the new milestone, or the old milestone. If you've been flip flopping back and forth between new and old texts, you
are going to fail the milestone.
Furthermore, both texts work on the basis of each chapter laying a foundation for the next. If you are jumping back and forth, you're just setting yourself up for failure and you're not going to get anything out of the material.

Oh I definitely agree with the value of switching and staying there. The new texts are vastly superior and I'd much rather have the cadets study the new stuff in sequence as opposed to going back to the old material. Just wanted to point out that there doesn't appear to be anything prohibiting cadets from switching back and forth in case they can't make an in-person testing session. It just becomes inconvenient in that they'll have to go back and read additional material for the milestone exams.

Well then we agree. I read "transition to new material" and assumed no switching back and forth, but as you pointed out, no such language exists except for on the milestones.
That being said, anyone switching to the new material should have no need to go back to old material. At our squadron, even though there are still cadets using the "old" material, we aren't teaching it in classes anymore. We've got a number of new cadets which makes it more logical to teach just the new material. Hopefully this will encourage those cadets still in Phase 1 using the "old" material to switch over once they get their Wright Bros.
Anyone with the right eservices access in your unit can unlock the online testing ahead of the 7 days. Your reason is valid in my book to open it back up.
