Title: NEED UDF PACKING LIST
Post by: JWilson on October 24, 2010, 04:43:26 PM
I am attempting to get 2 cadets ready for a sarex (im a C/SRA in NATCAP) and I need a Packing list for these fine cadets. I figured a UDF day-pack (what i bring to a sarex) would be sufficient for the purposes of a NATCAP SAREX which are supremely easy. I found the ELT last August and it required no more gear than a uniform and boots and the skill of walking towards the bright orange box with an antenna poking out the side sitting on a tree stump sitting in a school playground. easy stuff, but i want my guys prepared ion case the brass decides to challenge us ground team members for once.

thanks for any help

I posted this list http://captalk.net/index.php?topic=11214.msg204713#msg204713

It has to be updated and it's on my mental list of things to get together and post, but I'm trying to balance my time and haven't got to it yet.  In the meantime, perhaps it would give you some useful ideas.

How were you on a search last year without the task guide and the required equipment?

I have a full pack and the task guide saved on my computer
The reason I asked here was that its common for operators to put off-list items into their kit that prove to be useful.
in short I was hoping to draw from people's experience in addition to the task guide

Understood.  the OP made it sound like you couldn't find the basic lists.

I think that my list has that - like the rubber duck antenna and that kind of thing.  I'm going to update this at some point.

I see what you mean by that.

Haha... the closest thing I have to that is an autobots IFF patch I have on my map case and a sog seal pup (which is ok under regs)

Normal colored?
Mine is a condor day pack in MARPAT (ACU looks ugly in my opinion and I like how MARPAT looks)
I still need to buy a 3-day bag

And I always thought that for UDF you just need to bring the L-Per and your Starbucks card. No wonder I am not UDF qualified yet.  >:D

Starbucks card.

That's an unnecessary piece of equipment. Starbucks isn't open at 0200. >:D

Fortunately, Google Maps on the iPhone is very good at finding 7-11, Denny's, and can even plot Lat/Long pairs!

I have a few "other" things in my UDF kit:

1. Notes that can be left detailing that the ELT was deactivated, why, and what should be done next (change the battery, for one).

2. A spanner wrench for those stubborn EPIRBs with the crosshatched bottom battery cover.

3. Flashlights

4. Airport directory - well, I don't *really* carry it anymore since I can get all the data on the iPhone.

5. Spare batteries for everything that takes 'em.

Not needed, it sits in a charging cradle in the vehicle so that I can add lat-long pairs as they come in from the IC.  :)

I prefer my android-based LG Ally (which had my parents not forgotten to toreturn to me could have helped to avoid an 8-hour wild goose chase with a little GPS magic) but I always use my Ipod Touch to time my MREs
