Title: First Successful Ornithopter
Post by: jimmydeanno on September 23, 2010, 04:37:59 AM
I saw this on the news today.  It's too bad that Leonordo DaVinci didn't have modern construction materials.  Although, DaVinci's did work in The Hudson Hawk.

But.. it's being towed by the car, Kitty Hawk re-enactment style.

I don't see the real accomplishment other than a pedaling wing flapper and 18 lbs lost. If the car stopped, the thing wouldn't work to well.

Picky, picky.  It's not like planes need to go anywhere that cars can't drive.  Sheesh.   >:D

It was towed to launch. If you look closely, most of the flight was unaided.

Generally, I like anything aviation related but color me unimpressed on this one.  Now if this happened maybe 100+ years ago, maybe....maybe.

Sure, he kind of it made it fly but so what?!  We already have airplanes.  And guess what?  They work pretty good now!  Not sure what problem he is attempting to solve...

The wings are more majestic-looking?
