My Group is running a Ground Search and Rescue Academy in a few weeks and I am planning on creating a recruiting video and maybe a highlights video afterwards, not to mention the obligatory photo ops that the come during the week.
Im running into a slight creative block when trying to make a list of photo shots I want to take. I have the availabiity to take low light and available light photos with a nice lense.
any suggestions on shots to add to the list would be great.
So far I have some shots with glow sticks illuminating the team's faces, tents which are lite from inside, crazy angles of search teams
I'm assuming that "nice lens" means that you have a real-live camera that would allow you to control things properly, so some night campfire pictures if you will have fires would be nice.
Since it's ground, I dunno if you'll have air support, but if you do, I'd suggest some good flightline pics as well as take-offs/landings.
I'd do:
- Skirmish lines
- Extractions, tying someone up in a stokes basket, etc.
- any rope work, if applicable
- presentations/demonstrations like working with a dog team or medevac
- close-ups of people doing map/compass work
- mission base shots
- briefings
- a collage of van decal variations (opps)
- for more creative work, close-ups of pack lines or stuff like that at a cool angle
- hat cams for video if possible
- PT shots, if applicable - nice sports shots too
- shots of teams from the air
trying to think of more...I'll add if I come up with others. I'd just kind of grab my Nikon and go to it - maybe make a short list of stuff I don't want to miss.
If I were going to be in the area at the time (which is unspecified), I'd offer to do shots, but I'm not sure if I will be.
You want to see photos? I'll show you photos! ;D Maybe these can give you some ideas.
Here are my ES photos, although not updated much recently since I have been serving more GBD rather than PIO:

And here are all my CAP photos:

Just rememeber, you want photos of people DOING SOMETHING.

Dave, I got some pictures from previous schools if you want them.
See about getting some with cadets in positions of responsibility. Such as leading a class or giving a briefing with seniors visible in the audience being respectful.
All are GREAT responses and I am making a shot list as we speak. Should be a great school
