Title: DDR Help
Post by: Patterson on July 14, 2010, 11:32:07 PM
So if you find that your Wing has no Wing DDR Officer, or even a Group DDRO....where do the requests for materials and activities to be signed off on go?  Do I send it to National, to Region or do I just do nothing??

Also, I find it difficult to front the 100% cost for DDR recruiting items.  I understand that we will get 80% back, but I don't want to take that kind of financial risk.  Do I ask Wing to buy the materials??  What if wing has no money either?!?!

I am really finding it hard to accept that CAP members have to front ALL COSTS for everything and request reimbursement.   That is not how an organization like ours is supposed to operate.  In fact, no business would ask its employees to front large amounts of cash and hope to be reimbursed.

What happens if I am approved to buy DDR items, pay $5,000 and then am told "we have no money" like what happened two years ago to the member in California.

I understand there are costs with being a member, but National should be buying the DDR materials for approved activities and reimbursing thier own accounts, not the other way around!!!!

One thing that is tuff for me is paying for things up front. I have done that a lot and I can not do it anymore.  The DDR items are not cheap.  We do not have any DDR officer as well, so we do it all through the Commander.

Can't help with the no Wing DDR person situation but what are you trying to order? We use the DDR catalog and only have to pay for the shipping of the items. Shipping can only be paid for with a credit card. Usually the squadron/wing reimbursed me before the bill comes due. Also, your commander should not sign/approve the request if there are no funds.

Check out the NHQ DDR website, I don't think they have the 20/80 split any longer. There are also DDR presentations and games that can be downloaded. There used be a ddr newsletter and teletraining but I don't think they do either anymore.

^ hold up......I read what you referenced and must have read it wrong.  If that is the case that changes everything.  I thought I had to pay for the actual items and shipping.  If it is just shipping that made my night!!

I still don't like having to pay for stuff for CAP upfront and waiting for reimbursement though!!

Never did......until Wing Banker.  Short story.....I pay my Credit Cards in full each month because I hate any kind of debt.  I was not thinking and purchased $200.00 worth of Rocket Materials on my Card and it posted the day after I paid my bill.  However, MasterCard decided that even though I paid my bill in full before the "payment due date", they would charge me interest on the $200.00 for carrying it over onto the next billing period.  Although the interest charge was small, it was still a non-reimbursable charge.  All I got from Wing Banker was my $200.00 as expected, and ate the interest charge on it.

I am just wondering how many others are placing larger amounts for CAP on credit cards and eating the interest charge because of it.

I am not saying I hate Wing Banker, or I will not buy things and wait for reimbursement, I just do not like doing it.

Patterson,

If you could, please PM me with your unit charter number and a method of contact, I will try and get information on who would be best able to assist you in the DDR paperwork.  As stated before, once the paperwork is approved, you only have to pay shipping on DDR Catalog items.
