Title: CAP members eligible to join Pentagon Federal Credit Union
Post by: FlyingTerp on July 10, 2010, 01:48:07 PM
I came across CAP members being eligible to join Pentagon Federal while trying to help a nonmilitary associated friend join PedFed.

Pentagon Federal is an outstanding financial organization with some of the most competitive rates available.  Wouldn't you think CAP would list it as a member benefit?  It's not:  http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/html/benefits.htm

Regardless, I just wanted to share this stealth benefit.

I think that is relatively new.  I joined through my CG Aux membership about 5 years ago.  Don't think it was open to CAP at the time.

Now if USAA would open up membership to CAP......that would be a cool benefit.

USAA has been opening up the membership rolls to other people.  The only result I can see is my rates keep going up and my services are decreasing.  I just got a quote from AAA that was 1/2 what I was paying USAA.   USAA use to be very selective in the membership - you had to be a commissioned officer, warrant officer, or USAF cadet.   That kept the costs down as this was a group of fairly safe drivers.  I saw the same thing happen to the base credit union years ago.  The credit union expanded the membership to include teachers in the surrounding communitys.  This only lead to more defaults on loans that got so bad the credit union almost had to close.
