That would be a great Idea, these subs don't have the AAA complement that the Type 7's and Type 9's had. Sooo it should be a safer bet, except that the ACLU would get it's collective panties in a knot. :D
I wonder if MAD gear could be instaled in a G8 Airvan?
I remember as a brand new cadet in New Jersey in 1974 being told that our squadron commander, a LTC Zimmmerman, had actually bombed a whale during the war. Don't know if he sunk it or not, as the official record only lists submarine kills.
Those things are so flimsy that you don't need MAD booms or depth charges. Just carry something heavy, fly a "stern to nose" attack at ~ 250 ft, and huck out the big heavy thing (I'm thinking a 55 gal drum with about 100-150lbs of water in it should do the trick). From experience, it takes a little practice with altitudes, airspeeds and "sight picture" but you figure it out pretty quick. As you get the accuracy dialed in, bring the altitude up more so that the "device" has the opportunity to accelerated to closer to terminal velocity. 20 Gal of water in one of those plastic drums might make a hell of a mess from 500+ ft, be fairly easy to handle, and will fall with a fairly regular profile.
"Sub coming under the nose, chief"
"Sub spotted, 3..2..1.. #1 away... #2 away.."
I bracketed an empty boat on a reservoir in a foreign country once with 1 qt cans of hydraulic fluid from 1200 ft, it just takes some practice.
(Heck, you can carry a crapload of 1qt cans of water, even. Nice steady attack airspeed, build yourself a dispenser system that rolls 20 of these things out the cargo door of a GA-8 in short order... Hahahahahahaha)

Why would you need MAD gear?
Are you trying to find the sub, or sink it?

Can't sink it if you don't know where it is. So step 1 - FIND IT. Step 2 - SINK IT. Simple. ;)
Of course, once the bad guys figure out the "Little Airplanes" are the one's sinking their subs, they will start sporting some kind of AAA.
A well aimed shot from a 12 gauge will take down a Cessna.
From what I know about these subs, they don't completely submerge, but run with their conning towers out of the water. Ergo, they should be relatively easy to spot from the air. Of course, they likely do a lot of their running at night, when all good CAP pilots are home in bed. BTW: these aren't new, just that the media has gotten ahold of the news.
No, no, no. We need to get letters of Marque so we can capture the submarine, ransom the drugs back to the DEA, hang the pirates, and sell their cute little submarine on E-bay to help fund O-rides.....
Major Lord
In which case the mission would go to the CGAux... Being the ones with boats.
Dropping ordinance/water bombs, anything like that is more fun anywho.
I'm waiting for the Observer/Bomber SQTR...
