Title: Question re: Air Ops Branch director
Post by: disamuel on June 02, 2010, 01:57:27 PM
Good morning-

I just completed my Mission Observer rating, and I was looking at some of the SQTR's to see what other positions I could train for. The Air Ops Branch Director seems to require GES, and MO, but eServices seems to also require Mission Pilot for the position (which I am not).

Does anyone here have AOBD on their 101 card, who is not a mission pilot?

(On another note can I wear observer wings now or do I need a 2a form?)

Thanks as always

You are reading it wrong it's either MO or MP plus GES.  I know of several non-pilot MO's who are great AOBD's.

Maj Sayre is correct. If you already have your GES and MO SQTR completed and approved, then in your AOBD SQTR entry screen you will see a green check symbol in the prerequisites section, meaning that you already meet the requirements for that section. Work on the sections that has a orange flag symbol next to it.

You can validate your basic observer rating in eServices. Under My Operation Qualifications, Emergency Services, ES Awards. Click on "CAP Observer Rating" and submit for approval. In CAWG it will go thru Unit cc, Group, and Wing for approval, your wing may vary.  Once approved, you can wear the observer wing even if you are out of currency in the future.

Ok, thank you both so much for your concise explanations.

I appreciate it.

Is a previous ground rating no longer required, or an omission in eServices?

Not required.  I think you are confusing AOBD with being a Planning Section Chief, which requires being either a AOBD or Ground Branch Director and having been BOTH a Mission Scanner and a Ground Team Member 3/Urban DF Team Member.

I don't think a ground rating was ever required for AOBD, just as the is no aircrew qual required for GBD.

You may be confusing it with PSC, which requires either GTM/UDF rating for those who are AOBD or MS for those who are GBD qualified. The only place I have found this is in a note on the top of the PSC SQTR when you select it under 'Print Blank Worksheets' in Ops Quals.

Note:

Personnel applying based on qualification as an Air Operations Branch Director requirement must at one time been qualified as a ground team or Urban DF team member. Personnel applying based on qualification as a Ground Branch Director must also be qualified as a mission scanner (need not be current).
