Title: SLS Online?
Post by: Eclipse on May 26, 2010, 01:46:57 AM
Anybody know what this is about?

The regs have not been updated and are specific about the number of hours, etc.

SLS On-line (for Chaplains)
(31 Aug 09)

On-line SLS: Now available to chaplains. Chaplains may register through this link or go to the On-line Courses & Exams page in CAP University.  On-line SLS will soon be open to all eligible candidates who would not otherwise be able to attend in residence.  Please note that the primary method of completing SLS is in residence and the on-line option is primarily for those who can not attend in residence.

and who would be the ones who couldn't attend in residence? Overseas squadrons? That just eliminates all the US based squadrons, who else would it be and how is it determined?

With only ten seconds to think about it, I can already come up with two groups of people who will benefit from this option:  Those with religious obligations or beliefs that prevent them from spending a whole weekend with CAP.  Those who must work every weekend.

Actually, overseas units can hold their own SLS and CLC if they have qualified instructors. I got both of mine in a unit in Japan.

So hold it every night for a week then.

Doing that probably wont get you much out of squadron participation though...

The goal is still there do interact with people from throughout your wing or any other wing that shows up....

- I've taken online courses where there was more class participation and interaction then then what took place in the classroom.... Because the professors new they needed to build that into the lesson instead of just hoping it might happen naturally...
