I dont get what he broke? Speed records ranging from 90-116 knots? And altitudes over 11,000? What were the records that have been in place for over 50 years? Are they records specific to a piston helicopter? I have landed at 12K in an MD500 loaded with two cops and rescue gear. An A-Star landed on top of Mount Everest at 29K a few years ago.
It's all done by classes, based on takeoff weight, powerplant, etc., just like in automobile records.
