So part of my first SDA to get 1st Lt is so interview someone of the topic if taking charge. (For thoes who don't know) And Ive never interviewed anyone before. Im having trouble thinking of some questions. Does anyone have any ideas?
Interviewing someone is really no big deal, so don't stress out about it. It's nothing like giving a speech or that type of thing.
As for questions, think about the topic, outline what you know or think you know, and try to figure out what you would like to know more about. The purpose of an SDA is to expose you to different aspects of CAP and leadership, and most of all, get you to think critically about a subject.
This (http://www.cadetstuff.org/archives/000465.html) is an excellent article with several very helpful tips on how to find information for and format your SDA.
Ah, the infamous interview.
BEFORE you go to the interview, write up 5-10 questions or so. They should be things that you want answers to. But don't present them to the person you are interviewing like it's a quiz that they are answering...
Use the questions as discussion prompts. So prompt them with the thing, and then let them talk. Even if they stray off topic, they might say something really important/useful to you. It might be ok if you don't use all of your prompts... It's polite to set a specific time for the interview; say 20-30 minutes and cut it off at the end time, even if you aren't "done" with all of your prompts. That's considerate to the person being interviewed.
Take notes on what they say. You don't have to write it word for word.
You *could* record the interview, so you can refer back to it later, but ONLY do this if you set it up ahead with the person, and they agree to it up front.
Once you have conducted the interview, and collected your notes, you can take your notes and form them into the outline for your speech; then practice; then present. Good to go!
--don't forget to collect some information about who they are, what they do, and why they are a legit source (how do they KNOW about leadership).
well its the questions part im having trouble with i got a few down but im having trouble thinking up a few more. I need to get a 3-5min speech out of this.
What questions do you have already?
If you are interviewing anyone who has leadership expedience...and expedience of "taking charge" i.e. a new squadron commander, a new boss, someone recently promoted to a supervision position.
You only need one or two really good questions.
Try:
What sort or process do you use to evaluate your new command/work center/office/team?
How do you help the team transition to new leadership?
What sort of problems have you encountered taking over a team?
What sort of problems have you had getting promoted to supervise your former peers?
I could give you 30-40 minutes of information on each one of those questions.
Just went and interviewed one of my managers at work. I came up with;
what does taking charge mean to you?
Do you need to be a leader in order to take charge?
What quiatlies does one need in order to take charge?
How do you interact with your employess and your boss?
And how do you take charge?
I got some really good answers and I think I actually did learn a good bit from what she had to say.
Sounds like you did a good job.
Good luck.
REmember, Like my mom always says,
"Everything is relative.
;)"
I am confused, are you doing an interview or a speech? Where did you hear that you have to do a speech with this information? Are you writing up your SDA?

For the achievement 9 SDA, you have to do both an interview and a speech, per CAPP 52-14. The interview is where you talk to a leader about taking charge, and then you report what you've learned in the SDA and in a 3-5 minute speech to the cadets in your unit.
Robert, Thank you, I was at work and couldn't get into the Reg's. The SDA's are a stumbling block for some cadets and as I understand it some squadrons don't do them or require them. This is in direct violation of the Reg's. I think it's a great idea for cadets to use Cap Talk for assistance in this area. Kudos..
