Title: NESA and Scanner Rating
Post by: Check Pilot/Tow Pilot on May 13, 2010, 01:49:19 AM
We are having some issues with achieving a second mission flight for two of our candidates for NESA.  One is going for MP and the other for MO.

Does anyone have any suggestions for completing a second mission prior to NESA?  What happens to candidates that show up to NESA withour their MS?

Email Maj Templeton about this issue, they might be able to work something out to get the 2nd sortie done the day before the school starts.

Depending on your Wing policy, you may be able to give them credit for being backseat if you have a rated MP going up on a B12 mission profile. Check with your Wing DOS.

Light up a self-funded sortie or two against your monthly mission number and fly a B12 of one of the 60-1 scenarios.

Done, probably for $30 or $40 a person.

Got it... but I thought only A missions counted towards the two required missions.

Nope - A,B,C, whatever.  Mission symbols, for the most part, are tied to funding and liability support (AFAM vs. Corporate), but
don't have much bearing on training quals.

You could go your whole CAP career, be very active in ES, and never be on an AFAM.  A lot of local DR, Missing Persons, and similar are
done under C's (too many , IMHO).

Nope, as long as the scanner is actually doing that job, and not just sitting in the back for an hour, it should be fine. The best way, as was mentioned, is to do it as a B12 under a MP profile, that way you're going up there with set goals and have a curriculum to point at if anyone says "So what did you do when you flew this mission?"
