I was a cadet in the late 80's early 90's in a squadron that is no more. I am considering coming back into CAP as a senior member and wanted to know if my records were still on file of if I would have to try and reconstruct them. Thanks for the help.
Sorry....reconstruction is most likely, unless your received a Milestone award (Mitchell, Spaatz etc.)
Thanks for your response Spike, I have all of my old ID cards that show membership as well as some training certificates. My file probably went in the garbage when the unit disbanded.
I would check with anyone in the area that is still a member when you were a member they may know where records went to. You can also check Wing HQ, they may know or even have your record (or the units historical files).
Good luck and welcome back to CAP!!! :)
Mine were lost as well, the only thing I was able to have added to my record (for what it was worth) was my Cadet encampment -- which I was able to prove only because the list of attendees was actually scanned and posted online by someone in NYWG CP. However, that being said, that's all it took, so they are very willing to give you credit if you can at least show a modicum of proof.

Agreed. I sent them copies of some olde stuff I had from my cadet and early SM days, and they got it right into the system.
Was that chiseled tablets, or parchment that you sent them? :P
I too, will vouch for NHQ, they are pretty understanding with just enough evidence, and it sounds like you have plenty, with a page full of ID cards and some certificates, if you listed out dates for some of the obviously obtained stuff, you'd probably get it all entered, if you didn't just send certificates even.
Ummm, they are pretty insistent on seeing something more than a list of dates. Photocopies of certificates works well, so you don't need to send them originals. I have actual paper items to back up every claimed year of membership for my Red Service ribbon.
Oh, no stone or parchment, although some of my cadet paperwork seems olde enough to be parchment.

I was in the same boat - Cadet in the 80's, returned after a very extended hiatus. I agree with Spike, you can get milestone dates, but you can also officially document your membership dates for any longevity awards you may be up for in the future.
Give Rita in Membership Services a call. She has access to the "old" database can print out a 1-page report for you summarizing the stated above. She is extremely helpful, and has done this for me a number of times.
Welcome back!
I will give that a shot bayareaflyer 44, thanks. I am from Sacramento and will be checking out my local squadron tomorrow evening.
I was a cadet from 1987-1993. When I rejoined as a SM in 1998, NHQ had nothing. Fortunately my old Squadron, Sq.45 at March ARB, CA still had my file. And my cadet old nameplates. Weird. They used them as spares for when cadets had uniforms but were waiting on nameplates to be engraved. All the new cadets for the past couple of years had all done a 2-3 week stint as "Cadet Steht" however none of the members ever knew who "Steht" was. There were several stories about what had happened to this mysterious "Cadet Steht". There were actually photos of me in the scrap books and some on the walls but nobody ever noticed. And then one day I walk in and introduce myself. It was almost erie. Literally the entire meeting place of about 10 seniors and probably 25 cadets went quiet like I had just ripped a big fart. The DCC then says, "Im sorry, what did you say your name was?" The entire squadron started laughing and clapping. I thought I was some sort of folk hero! The mystery had been solved. I later became the DCC myself for about 4 years.
OK.......nothing like letting the mind wander there a bit.....
That was a great story!
