Title: Now this is good publicity!
Post by: RiverAux on March 18, 2010, 03:54:59 AM
Kudos to Colorado Wing having some alert aircrews....doing a routine training mission, heard a plane make a distress call over the radio , flew to the site where the plane made an emergency landing, talked to the pilot to confirm they were ok, and then stayed on scene to help guide rescue forces to the site.

I couldn't think of a much better way of showing some of CAP's strengths.

As much COWG would like to take credit for this, it was actually IDWG.

My mistake.  I saw "Co." in the article title and thought Colorado rather than County.

Why? The public would only care if it was Jack Baur that parachuted from the CAP plane and fought off wave after wave of terrorists to only be betrayed by the crashed pilot, who then tortures him.  But of course Jack Baur escapes and exposes a national level conspiracy to get rid of AF style uniforms.

I keed >:D

All seriousness this kind of story is really the thing we need to push in the media.  Kudos to the pilots.

I totally agree. Would be great to find out more about how they coordinate with ground forces.  Does ID wing have a base station monitoring while their aircraft are in the air?  Did the CAP aircraft just call the local ATC facility and report?  Did the CAP aircraft talk with responding rescue units on a common VHF NFM frequency channel in their band plan? or does certain ID rescue units have AM band portable for 122.9/123.1 mhz?  (That's my Comm Officer hat being on  ;D)

Now with my PAO Officer hat on.    GREAT JOB!!!!!
