Title: promotions
Post by: Daniel on March 11, 2010, 04:06:49 AM
Greetings,

I have a question about promotions on a cadet level. I recently was told that I was to be promoted to C/msgt. it has been awhile since then and im still showing in eservices as a c/tsgt I asked my commander and she said it was 'pending'. Do promotions go through wing or national? My commander is new and this is her first processing of a promotion. Is there something to be fixed or is it just a waiting game?

Regular cadet promotions are approved by the unit CC.

If the unit CC entered it in, why would it be pending?

Both the Deputy Commander and Commander can approve cadet promotions in e-services.  My Deputy does it all the time.  They don't show pending unless another staff officer enters them, then they need to be approved by myself or my Deputy.

Promotions entered by the CC/DC are marked as pending if the last promotion was approved less than 56 days ago (or 28 for eligible JROTC members).

A cadet promotion that shows in the approval module as "Pending" just needs to have the approve button checked and the submit button clicked - unless there is still days pending until they're eligible.  If there is still time left it will say "XX days remaining" next to the submit button.

By default, your Deputy Commander for Cadets and Squadron Commander will have approval authorization for cadet promotions.  This can be provided to other senior staff members with the commander's authorization.

If other people in your unit enter the data (personnel officer, testing officer, etc) and the record gets to the point that all the requirements are done, it will go to the approval queue for whomever has approval authorization.

It depends on which tab they entered it under.  In any case he/she just needs to go to the Commander Approvals tab and enter an approval date and click submit.

If you use the "Data Entry" tab to enter your information, the promotion will be pending until you click on the "Approvals" tab and enter the date of the promotion, and your approval.  This is the case even if you have approval authority.  The reason for this is so that you can enter the date the promotion became effective as opposed to having the system automatically tag it with the date you entered the information.

For example, our squadron meets on Thursday nights.  Rarely do I get a chance to enter the information for promotions into National that night.  This allows me to enter the data on Friday morning (or whenever I get a chance to get to it) and still have the date of promotion be that Thursday.

The other tab, "Administration" doesn't require you to go back and approve anything (at least not if you already have approval authority), as you just enter the date of promotion when you enter the information.
