Cadet First Lieutenant: C/1st Lt
Please try to keep to the topic. Wouldn't want this thread to get locked.
Thanks.

Hillman how are you able to be a Cadet officer so quickly? It was only in May of 2010 that you were a C/SrA. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm Cadet Lee. I was at the 2010 GAWG encampment and in your flight at one of those BCTs hosted by Peachtree Composite in April/May.
I'm going to the 2011 encampment (for the topic).
I would love to go. I may have to make a decision on CAP activities I do this summer. Is it advisable to apply for staff and then make a decision later?

In my opinion; I would first make a decision on what activities to go to. If deciding to go to this encampment, apply for cadet staff. Cadet Staff positions are now on the website. Cadet Staff Applications will be online on 10 January 2011.
Travel instructions are on the website as well.
If you do choose to apply for cadet staff, please let us know. Best of luck!

Hey, the COWG Encampment will fill early. And besides, Cadet Commander is chosen in January with Staff Selection shortly thereafter.
In fact, the GAWGE 2011 is using the COWGE template. The Georgia Wing Encampment Commander and Commandant of Cadets have both worked at Colorado Encampments, and if that Encampment works so, then why reinvent the wheel?

So has KSWG Winter Encampments for the last 2 years. We just finished our second year following the COWG model.

I like this, in that he promotes his wing for inventing the wheel (;D) and at the same time says that other wings are smart to use the model if they don't have one, since it does work.
Easily could have turned into a mudslinging contest about other wings too lazy to work it out themselves. (And I'm GAWG, so I agree that it's smart).
Senior Staff Applications are still being accepted. Senior Staff Assignments are listed in the link below http://www.gaencampment2011.org/sr_staff.html (http://www.gaencampment2011.org/sr_staff.html)

I will not be attending. I am going to NESA
As the commander of the 2011 GAWG Summer Encampment, I invite all of you to come join us. This is a totally new type of encampment for GAWG, and is modeled after the COWG Encampment at the USAFA. After a delay of 20 years, we are being welcomed back to an Air Force Base, and we will absolutely make the best of this opportunity. We are still taking applications for the cadet commander, and Cadet Staff Members. We have a few open Sr. Staff positions, including TACO's and a Stand/Eval Officer. I encourage you to visit www.gaencampment2011.org for all the information
I noticed on the GAWG Encampment website that all cadets must have achieved the Curry before even applying for the encampment. Why is that?
Also, is there a packing list available yet?
Thanks.

I noticed on the GAWG Encampment website that all cadets must have achieved the Curry before even applying for the encampment. Why is that?
Because that's what 52-16 says.
I meant, why must they be C/Amn seven or eight weeks before the encampment?
That ensures that they have the necessary uniform bits, and know how to wear them properly, for one thing.
Sending a cadet to encampment too early isn't fair to the cadet, or the encampment staff. There are certain things that need to be learned before attending encampment, and seven or eight weeks is long enough to accomplish that.

I meant, why must they be C/Amn seven or eight weeks before the encampment?
Because in my experience a lot of CCs miss that bit about wearing the uniform properly before promoting a cadet to C/Amn and said cadet is missing a tape or other patch. Two months is enough time for that to be shaken out before they hit encampment. Eclipse will tell you that it still doesn't solve all the problems with uniform wear at encampment.
Does anyone know when the packing list will be available? I know it varies from year to year.
All,
The Deadline for Cadet Staff, Senior Staff and Cadet Commander closes NEXT Saturday 12 March. We have some very good candidates, but we welcome more applications. Also, the application procedure for First Time, and ATF cadets is now posted. This is going to be an awesome encampment, unlike any GAWG encampment prior. The complete packing list for this encampment will be posted by 12 March, so visit www.gaencampment2011.org.

I cannot answer for GAWG specifically, but most encampments welcome cadets from different wings to attend, space permitting.

As far as signatures on the CAPF 31, what is your policy? At other encampment that I have applied for, I have ended up having to submit 2 "uploads" of my CAPF31. One with the information, and one of just the signature page that had been faxed around and sent back to me.

I just noticed this and I have to say I disagree, though it is certainly within the encampment commander's authority to place such a restriction, as long as the Wing CC concurs.
Everything a basic cadet needs to be successful should have been accomplished with the Curry achievement, anything else is gravy, but is not likely to have much of an influence on the cadet's experience if they have done their Curry work properly.
My major concern with this is that a lot of whether and when a cadet attends an encampment is a matter of timing, and studies have shown that cadets who attend an encampment within their first year stay in CAP longer than those who don't. Artificially limiting a cadet's participation so that his encampment may be a year or more delayed doesn't seem like a good idea.
Year 1 - 2 weeks short of the minimum, friends attend, he doesn't.
Year 2 - Sister's Graduation, funeral, or other "life" precludes attending.
Etc.
This is one of the reasons we all too often have Chiefs in the basic ranks.
Cadets who meet the minimums of 52-16 should be allowed to participate. If NHQ felt more time was necessary, they would have included it in the minimums.
I attended basic ENC as a C/CMSgt.
It put me back somewhat in the program.

Yes sir, they were just simple questions about my definition of leadership, and I was asked what qualities I could bring to the encampment, and asked if I had a digital camera, in which I answered no.
Alright. Good. Well, wish me luck if you want... :P

Flight commander and somthing else I don't remeber what. I was filling out the apps for GA and the AL/MS wing encampment so don't remember what all I put down. Are you going to the staff training weekend?
That would probably be a NO. Georgia is a LONG way from Pennsylvania. However, if my brother, Lt Col Bendele, gets the position of Group Commander, then probably yes.
How about you?
It depends. On the Web site it says they are having it at some squadron. If it was at Robbinsob AFB I could probable do it. My dad was stationed there and I was going to stay with fam friends the night before. But if it somewhere else in GA it will be a no go from my parents.

Thanks.
Usually it is a requirement at encampments. But I'll leave that up to you sir
If the patches become available before Encampment, you are welcome to wear them. However, for this encampment, the Old patch will be acceptable.
