Of course, thats the whole point of this thread.
Well, I'm out then... I look horrible in uniform.
The latest picture I have of me in CAP uniform is like 4 years old. And I'm not throwing on a uniform just to take a picture....I'm not a cadet anymore you know. ;D
It would take me longer to put my ribbons on and set up my badges than it would to snap the pic...

Don't pick on Mikey, at least his gig line is OK (but I doubt he meets the weight standards)
I never said it had to be a current picture.
As for myself, Ill put one up as soon as I get home and have access to my hard drive.

That second button tie tack rule always gets me too. Then again, someone has to tackle me to the ground and beat on me for a bit to get me to wear a tie in the first place.... Great pic there Major Corrales.

When I first joined CAP, a US Air Force Officer friend of mine told me that the tie tack/tie bar was supposed to make a line with the nametage and ribbons. I wore it like that until I came here and was told otherwise.

Yep, just got my gray epaulets too. I think a few weeks before they were maroon.

Likely just an optical illusion based on the darker blue in the flag behind it. I assure you that that shirt is CAP/USAF Kosher.

thats the problem. You may never get a real CAP uniform, and you will spend the rest of your career explaining why the polo is just fine.

However since *I* have to pay for this stuff I have to budget for it, and since I cannot get in an aircraft without being in "uniform" I should just wait until I can afford to buy it all?

You're right, that's shenanigans!
It's taken me 8 years to acquire the uniform items I have now, and there's still more I haven't gotten. Talk with people outside your unit, especially other units with an aircraft near an AFB or ANGB. See if they have a flight suit that'll fit you. Also, hit up your Wing Logistics/Supply person, see what they have to offer or if they can score anything from you from any of their contacts.
Welcome to the party! If you ever want to talk Mission Pilot stuff, send me a PM.

You know, Chuck, it truly is amazing, the difference between the way people really look compared to the way I imagine they look. I had you pegged as curly haired, pale skinned and no facial hair.
Same with CadetProgramsGuy. Not that I really "pictured" you before, but not what I would have expected.
Not knocking people, just saying, it's amazing how far off I am.
Come next month I am putting together my dress BDU's. Had a set as a cadet but I retired them now that I am a senior.
Everything tailored, no buttoms but the center that you button to put the blouse on, everything else that was sown before will be down down using the original stitching path. Cargo pockets are sewn down ect ect. Will go with my mirror shine Corcron Jump boots.
Looks super good, a lot of DI's and TI's do it.
Everything but the bots done professionally by the way.
No blues for me right now (never did really look that good in them) and my field BDU's are less then show worthy haha.

Ultimate Kirt and Ultimate Spicoli... Separated at birth?
You know how many people have equated me with Jeff Spicoli? When I went into the Army I still had the surfer slang and twang. Since moving back to Florida last year, I've taken up surfing again, hopefully without the mentality and twang of a burnt out surf rat.
Here's me after battling the 2' waves of Atlantic Beach. A slow day, but a good day to use my 7' 4" fun board and practice getting my 205 lb butt up on my feet. My surfboard was actually designed and crafted by my 12th Grade Zoology teacher, Roger Wood, a la "Wood Surfboards".

Hey Kirt, I've been meaning to ask, what's the badge you got beneath your ribbons there?
Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) ID badge. It's a temporary badge worn by folks serving under the OSD. If you serve for longer than one continuous year, you keep it as a permanent badge. It's listed on my DD214.
From '94 to '95, my last year in the Army, I was selected (forced) to go to the Pentagon on a special detail as part of the "SEC DEF Sentry Team". Basically, representatives from each branch of service, to include the USCG, wore dress blues, strapped on a M9 (issued 9 mm pistol) and stood outside the Secretary of Defense's office.
As cheesy as it sounds, it was pretty cool and we did do more than just stand there. Sometimes we drove general officers, office staffers or VIPs guests of the secretary. We attended some specialized "protection training" that I think was just a morale booster. The coolest part was seeing all the high speed folks coming in and out of the office. From General Powell to all the Service Chiefs, as well as foreign dignitaries. People I personally remember include Scott O'Grady, Steven Spielberg, the whole 1994 Winter Olympic team (or was it summer), and a few Medal of Honor recipients to name a few.
It wasn't the job I signed up for as an infantryman, but it was certainly an experience few can talk about.

Nope, I'm the main guy in the Army Values Series...
Picture taken in 1997 prior to deploying to Bosnia. AUSA did an article on my company as the "first National Guard infantry company to be deployed since Vietnam". This picture ended up on the cover of the 1997 Army Green Book (AUSA's annual publication). After numerous scandals the Army was looking to improve its soldiers from the top down so they came up with the Army Values. They selected this photo as the "cover poster" for the series. It ran 9 years, until 2006 when the replaced all the old posters with new ones.

You don't want my job, now. That was my last job. 5 years as a detail leader protecting the President of the World Bank in DC. Now I'm a cop. The price I paid for wanting to move to Florida and live near
the beach family and raise one of my own. My previous life was not conducive to raising a child.
In reference to the picture, we deployed the day after the tsunamis hit. 4 days after they hit, my team, along with the President, were on our way to Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the Maldives. The Maldives were affected the least, hence the suit. Everywhere else we were a lot more relaxed with waterproof boots, fatigue-style pants and masks over our faces.

It all started as a cadet, along with some influence from my mom and her addiction to taking pictures of everyone and everything. I've carried a camera with me everywhere I've been, however sometimes you have a job to do and can't snap a shot. The other problem is I find myself taking pictures of other people doing cool stuff so I have to remember to hand my camera to someone else to snap a shot of me.
A few more pics, since I'm showing off you're interested...

In an effort to get this discussion back on topic, as if I wasn't a main culprit, I am going to nominate all of these people for wearing every version of service uniform CAP has. Each of them win in their respective category.

Why do we always get photos of members outside in uniform without headgear? Female in the front left has no grade on her lightweight blue jacket.

Why do we always get photos of members outside in uniform without headgear?
The few times I've had pictures taken outside in uniform, I've been told to lose the hat because the shadow obscures the face. At least that's according to an Air Force photographer I knew.
Ad yes, I know, flight caps don't do that. But to maintain uniformity in the pic, everybody removes headgear.
Here is the caption that went with the photo:
QuoteCAP hosts Squadron Leadership School
From Left to Right are Civil Air Patrol officers (Row 1) Edit: just some typical senior members (Row 2) Edit: no need to mention their names. (Civil Air Patrol Photo by Maj. Dana Gray)
My question, especially during an SLS, is what was the UOD? Regardless of which you choose to go with, TPU or Mil-Style, everyone should be wearing something closely resembling the same uniform. If it was short-sleeve [fill in uniform], then there should be short-sleeve blues, short-sleeve TPU, or aviator shirt. No one should be wearing a tie or tie tab, no one should be wearing long-sleeves and no one should be wearing service dress.
Most of the PD and other activities I've been to specified a UoD... or stated what was acceptable and what was unacceptable... Like, no bags, BDUs, service dress or equivalents.
What annoys me, is even when you are very specific people still show up in what they want. And don't say wear class Bs. >:D
Just be sure to announce it a couple weeks ahead. if you announce it right before the event, people might already be on the way, without that uniform.
BTW, what does this have to do with a uniform contest. pic is good, why not best good, going into UoD bad.

Here is what I see...
There are so many uniform combos and types of people who wear different types of uniforms. It makes it impossible for CAP members, even in the same squadron, to get the same items. Unless a Squadron Commander, such as myself, "ordered" everyone...via squadron policy, to buy and wear one uniform.
Ideally, in the Carralesian Universe... Quoteeveryone would start with one uniform..."minimum basic" (aka short sleeve blues). Order your ribbons and wear them for formal events.
The move on to a field/operational uniform (BDUs or Flight Suit) as one's next purchase. When one makes Captain, order a long sleeve shirt with tie.
When one becomes a Major, get into service dress...service coat. Every Lt Col Should own a Service CAP for formal occasions (like CAP Funerals and Wing Conferences)
MESS DRESS for Field Grade Officers (ideally), sort of quasi-mandatory for Colonels on up. Optional in the company grades.
When to wear the stuff...QuoteREGULAR MEETINGS:
Short Sleeve Shirt Combo- no ribbons (save recruiters and PAOs)
BDUs/Flight Suit- If need be.
SARex:
Flightcrews- Flight Suits
Ground Teams/COMM- BDUs
Mission Staff- Short Sleeve Combo
Class Environment (AKA SLS/CLC/UCC et al):
Students: Short Sleeve Shirt Combo- no ribbons (save recruiters and PAOs)
Instructors: Service Coats
WING/REGION/NATONAL Conferences
Company Grade: Short/Long Sleeve Combo (with tie where appropriate) with ribbons
Field Grade and General Grades: Service Coats
Banquets and Dinners
MESS DRESS or SERVICE DRESS
That is what I would suggest if I were in charge of the CAP Universe. Those that know me will see common themes. Feel free to disagree...won't matter, it all conjectural anyway.
I can't help it.

Booya.
Passed out at an airshow in Manitowoc, WI. I was the only cadet working night security, so I slept during the day. The only problem was that it was Sunday, and the chaplain was holding mass in the hangar we were sleeping in. I promptly took up refuge in ORCA and died on the couch. They were looking for things to put in my mouth...
I hope for your sake they didn't find anything. I can remember a few "gatherings" where people were successful i finding things. I've only seen the pictures. That wasn't fun.

I like to think so, and, well, we are. It sucked tho because the Marines were in charge of providing targets for the search. The idiots hid 300 yards from the start point, right along the $%^&ing trail. A game of hide and seek in an empty room would have been more challenging than that.
