questions about homeland security

so i want to be a homeland security officer when i become a senior officer (SM). what do i have to do? like what kind of training do need? and what not.

Homeland Security isn't a specialty track. What you need to do is get aircrew certified, I think. Someone with a lot more knowledge will now answer you question better.

The clostest thing I have heard of a Homeland Security Officer is the Wing Operations Officer-Homeland Security.

It is not a specialty in and of itself but a sub duty of the Operations branch.

What exactly do you think a HLS Officer is?

Homeland Security Officer is not a CAP specialty currently included in CAPR 20-1 but duties would overlap with several emergency services positions. If there is a need for this position to fit unique mission requirements, wing or region commanders may create a position and job description for a Homeland Security Officer.

3. Organizational Structure. Civil Air Patrol's organizational structure at all levels follows the basic organizational concepts in this regulation. However, there may be situations where wings/units need to realign organizational elements to fit unique mission requirements. In these cases region commanders may approve deviations to improve efficiency.
a. Position descriptions at all echelons (region, wing, group, and squadron) are so similar that the same position description applies to all levels, unless otherwise indicated. Short, telegraphic sentences in the position descriptions give a broad picture of the duties of each position. The tasks listed are described in detail in other CAP directives. All phases of each functional area have been covered in each position description even though some units may not have a need for every task. Local units are authorized and encouraged to develop more detailed position descriptions to fit individual unit situations.
b. Each unit commander should develop and post an organizational chart at headquarters, depicting the name and grade of the incumbent of each position and the specific duties of each so unit personnel know their responsibilities and their chain of command. In smaller units, it may be necessary that more than one position be filled by the same member; however, someone should be responsible for each task outlined in the position description so the entire unit is aware of who is responsible for which duties.

usafcap1.  I apologize if I hurt your feelings.  River has worked deep cover in the HLS department.  Hes right.  Its not something that should be taken lightly.  He has memories that keep him awake at night.  If you survive, maybe someday you will earn the right to see the world as he does.

On a serious note.....I dont know anything about what an HLS Officer does.  In reality, probably not much.

So as stated above the job, in and of itself does not exist, yet.  Each state is establishing and working out job descriptions and I believe that in the near future it will become an important job in CAP with standards established at the National Level based on all the work being done now at the Wing levels. 
In the our Wing we are selecting seniors who have had some past experience in Law Enforcement.  Our staff are working with State and Local HLS departments and attending briefings, where allowed by these departments. 

So your first step would be to contact you Wing HLS Chief and discuss your interest with them.
Check the internet for HLS websites and keep up to date with them.  Does your state have a HLS site?
Are you interested in Law Enforcement?  Maybe pursue a career there. 
Understand that even your internet activities could be reason to keep you from pursuing such a career.  Yes they (the government) can track your activities on the internet.  I recently talked with an internet specialist from a Law Enforcement organization and he stated that even pirating music and movies could prevent a person from getting into a Law Enforcement organization or getting certain levels of security clearances.

I just had to kill a medium sized rabid bear with a number 2 pencil- I could tell you about the PT test, but then I would have to kill you....

Huh? Whats this all about?  CAP selecting members based on their training and experience outside of CAP?  Preposterous.  Certainly there must a way to grieve this decision!

Be able to consume large quantities of coffee while sitting through endless briefings that will only infrequently result in CAP being tasked to provide support for an event or aerial photograhy of areas of concern.

Have the Wing CC, CS, & DO on speed dial so you can brief them on the briefing and pass along any requests for support.
