Title: Blue Winter Cap
Post by: yolo on August 02, 2020, 05:37:04 PM
Hey guys,

In CAPR 39-3, on page 90 it is mentioned;

"6.2.4. Blue Winter Cap. Cap will only be worn with a full-length outer garment, while
wearing the mess dress, semi-formal, service dress or service uniforms (Figure 6.13)."

Does anyone know where I could find one?

Thanks,
TheMeepMan

If you've never seen one, check out the picture at VG:

One look at the picture should be enough to make you not want to every buy one.

Where do you live?

I had a hat like that when I was in the Navy, and it was mostly too warm in Maine and northern Japan. Besides, it's you-ga-lee.

I live in NJ sir. And Capt Thompson, I saw it and I am very disappointed that the flaps aren't white :(.

But authorized with mess dress. Which tempts me to buy one just because.

I'm sorry about the NJ thing. I lived there for 13 years, and do not recall it ever being cold enough to need one of those hats.

Only place that I've found it was Vanguard for $65. No way I'm gonna pay that much for a winter cap.

Michigan is as cold as NJ and I've never seen one of these worn, even with Mess Dress. Even if it was only $10 I don't know many that would want it on their head.

I'll be honest, I really only wanted it because I've never seen anybody with it and I thought it would be kind of funny.

Michigan's average winter temperature is lower then NJ.

With that said, if you're wearing mess dress, you're going from a car to a banquet hall or
other building.  You're not outside long enough to need this unless your supply of atomic wedgies is low.

Unless you find one used, it's an expensive hat to buy because it looks funny. Also note that you must wear it with a full length outer garment, so if you don't already have an all-weather coat or topcoat, you will need to acquire one of those too.

Is the USAF Dress Cloak authorized for CAP members?

I don't think it's authorized for actual USAF anymore.

That's CAP's symbol for "nope".
