CAP plates are not a get out of jail free card.

Correctamundo. And neither are Masonic emblems for that matter.

Ah... but you never know... Masons carry a lot of weight here in the Northeast. Especially if the cop is a member himself.

I also know that the NYPD is very unlikely to pull you over if you have emergency vehicle tags. They usually don't know what CAP is and won't take the chance of it being someone important like a politician. By unlikely I mean they may give you some headroom in speeding or missing a stop sign, not driving in the oncoming lane at 60mph. The NYPD also tends not to bug government vehicles. City, State or Federal. Mostly because you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you.

Helps if you're driving down some one-horse town in Oklahoma (namely, Colbert, Tushka, Stringtown and other towns on the way to Tulsa on US69/75) whose main revenue stream is speeding ticket collections.)

I got bagged once in Coweta outside Tulsa - got off only with a warning. Couple of days later I visited Coweta Lodge and noticed on the past master wall that the cop who stopped me was a PM of that lodge. Helped to have the S&C on the back windshield, I guess.  ;D

Wow!  Probably a long time, if ever, we'll get those in Washington.  We just got Veteran's plates approved last year.

Thats just because Washington is kinda anti-soldier, pro-liberal.

The problem in getting organizational plates is that the sponseringorganization has to put up the initial fee for the plates which is about $25,000 and then has to have a certain amount sold  at between $25 to $40 every year in order to keep them in production. Personally I prefer my "Free" Purple Heart plate to a $40/annum Civil Air Patrol plate.

I prefer paying $40/annum to being eligible for a Purple Heart

We looked into when COL Raymond was the Wing/CC. (I was his DP) The startup cost was prohibitive and as I stated earlier you had to have a minimum number to maintain the plate production. Its also considered a vanity plate=$40 extra on issue and renewals.

No petitions (3,500 sigantures min) for special plates will be accepted until July of 2009, then requires legislative approval (the next session would be in Jan 2010).

Two and a half to Three years at the soonest.

Back to plates, I bought a couple from the Hock Shop the other day for collecter items, and they were pretty cool!   8)

I wish Ohio would come out with one. The only CAP license plates we have are for the corporate vehicles. Rumor has it that someone at Wing HQ many many many years ago got one someone's bad side. I'm actually gonna contact a friend of mine who works for the BMV, and find out if those plates are restricted to CAP corporate vehicles or not.

Meh... CAP plates.

That would be cool to get them in CA.

Our "Veteran" plates (on my parent's cars - due to my dad, USAF Vet) are butt ugly.

You get the plates, then pick the "sticker" you want from your list and stick it on there.  Pretty cheap if you ask me.  Here's the entire list
