Capt. David P. Bird
Eagle Rock Composite Squadron
Idaho Wing

David Paul Bird (Dave), 71, of Moore, Idaho, loving husband
and father of nine children, passed away on Tuesday, April 21,
2020, in Arco, Idaho from a heart attack. Dave was born on
December 27, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gale and Helen
(Freudenberg) Bird.

As a mostly self‐taught audio‐video engineer, Dave worked for
several telecommunications companies in the Salt Lake area.
He worked at Intermountain Video, KSL, Video West, BTS
(Bosch‐Philips) and for the audiovisual department of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‐day Saints. He also ran his own
broadcast consulting operation, Media Interface. He had the
professional experience of a lifetime when he worked from
1996‐2006 with the Olympics in Atlanta, Sydney, Salt Lake,
Athens and Turin. After semi‐retirement, he spent a lot of time
on the top of a mountain managing a repeater station.

He loved the mountains. Dave was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter with a stunningly keen eye who
spent many seasons hunting or fishing with his dad, his brothers and in‐laws, his children and
grandchildren. The best place to get to know him was in the woods where he shined. His love of the
outdoors and wildlife led him later in life to buy land and make plans to dedicate a portion of it for
animal rehabilitation.

Dave served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‐day Saints in the West Mexican mission as
a young adult. He also served three senior missions at the Palmyra New York Temple, in Mexico City
(Chalco) and with the Family History Center. He loved serving in the temple and spent over fifteen years
as an ordinance worker. He also loved to visit the local temples wherever he traveled.
Dave was active as a youth as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol where he earned the Billy Mitchell Award.
He was an avid amateur radio operator, licensed as WA7RYV and assisted with emergency preparedness
as a member of the Taylorsville, Utah, radio club. With his interest in communications, he rejoined Civil
Air Patrol in 2015 and was promoted to the rank of captain in 2018 and was awarded a National
Commander's Commendation for his work on the radio message team. He enjoyed working with the
youth and attended several encampments, teaching many cadets radio communications skills.

He is survived by his wife Angela; his former spouse, Carolyn and their nine children, Kristen Kingery
(Steven), Michael (Amy), Bonnie Hall (Daniel), Matthew (Summer), Bradley (Caryn), Robin, Nathan
(Katharina), Jonathan (Koryn) and David (Christine), and thirty‐seven grandchildren; and three siblings,
Ronald, Kathy Palmer (Brian), Coralee Carroll (Michael); and many nieces and nephews. David was
preceded in death by his father, Gale, his mother, Helen and brothers Gale and Brian.
