I'm looking for suggestions on the best "road map" GPS. I currently have a Garmin StreetPilot i5, but I want to upgrade. The screen is too small and its the rollerwheel type, not touchscreen. I'd prefer to stay with Garmin as well. I don't like Magellan and TomTom can't do the coordinate address system for squat. Its for use primarily at work (I'm a furniture deliveryman) but I have used it for CAP on multiple occasions.
Any suggestions?
I have a TomTom One...I like it, plus I like being able to change voices and have a british porn actress or Mr. T. give me directions. It's easy to enter a coordinate to navigate to. I used it last time I was home (Cedar Grove, WI) and the use the Coordinate Address, and it didn't have any issues. I think it was $146 at BestBuy.
See, thats just the opposite of what I've heard. Some of the guys at work swore up and down that TomTom is bad on the coordinate system. Although I'm willing to bet that you don't use it as much as we do (ten times a day+)
TomTom is very bad with coordinates. I tested a couple TomTom's out before going with a Garmin Nuvi. When you enter coordinates on a TomTom it looks for the closest road and marks that as the point you wanted to go to. This can mean that in an area without many roads the TomTom will still look for the nearest road and mark that as what you entered even though it may be quite a way aways. The Garmins will mark exactly the coordinates you enter and will take you to the closest place on a road then indicate that you have to go off the road to get to your destination. I love my Nuvi 650. I've used it several times on UDF missions as well as normal day to day use. The screen is huge. If you're a member of Costco keep an eye out in the ads. I got my for pretty cheap through them.
I have used Rand McNally for a long time. It does not show lat and long where you are, however; you can get the lat and long for where the arrow is. Find the lat and long put in a push pin (not a real one of course) and then navigate to that spot. Or if you need your lat and long for right now just move the arrow to the position. I use it on a lap top and it switches from day to night mode. Plus you can zoom in to about a city block.
Garmin 296/396/495/496 - then when you get to the airport, you can put it in the plane

I have to agree, I traded my Garmin i5 for a tom tom one 3rd edition. I never would have gotten rid of my i5 but the speaker stopped working. The tom tom defiantly has less POI loaded into it, it seems when ever I am searching for something it isn't in there. My i5 on the other hand, 9.8 times out of 10 had what I was looking for even though the maps were 3 years old. What I like about the tom tom is it does not cost anything to update your maps, however when you do update your maps any POI you have saved in there and any updates you have made to the map gets erased, and it does not warn you about that before you do it.
Recently Tom Tom's flaws have been bugging me a lot more, probably because I use it more now with my new job, but I have been tempted to go buy a garmin and just give the Tom Tom to my sister.
I keep trying to convince the better half that a Garmin 496 with a XM subscription is EXACTLY what we need for the car..... ;D

I've got that myself. I'm not sure on it's usefulness in the car. Air/Ground ops yes.
