I'm helping with a unit insignia, and the original art uses these wings, which were obviously taken from some
sort of military or similar insignia.

Has anyone seen these before?

No idea - an element of the insignia obscured whatever was there originally.

This looks somewhat like the wings on the SAS logo.

Similar to USN/USMC Combat Aircrew wings, but not quite!

Robert,

I read your post at work today.  I cannot tell you how hard I laughed.

See you tommorow night at the meeting.

Could it be a version of the Hap Arnold emblem, like from NAF patches?

reminds me of the wings on from the eagle on the Cadet Service Cap Device & the Cadet Programs Specialty Track badge.

Two thoughts:

First it looks like some of the wings on some of the Scottish Clan Badges and unit badges of the British Army.

Second it also looks like some unit patches of the US airborne or glider forces infantry regts  like the 503rd, 188 or 187th.............

But I could be wrong............

You might be on to something, especially the cadets programs badge.  How old is it?  My notes say this patch I'm working on is about 40 years old.

To me it looks like the wings portion of the early Pontiac Firebird emblem.

The other wrinkle in this is that's its clear to me the wings were scanned from an embroidered patch of some kind, so that leaves out the CP badges since they wouldn't be embroidered.

The CP badge is newer than 1987. It's not in Major Ragan's Collector's Catalog, published in 1985, and he discusses the ES badge being introduced that year. The '87 version of the 39-1 only show Comm, ES, and Safety badges.

Anyone know of any sites that have a lot of old CAP and military embroidered specialty badges?

When viewed upside down they look like an Indian chief's head-dress.

Try Harley Davidson patches and such.  Was passed today by some bikers on the way to encampment who had HD leathers on and on their colors were the HD eagle and it looked more like what you have there than what I mentioned earlier.

Maybe an insignia from one of the Warsaw Pact countries?

If it is, it's not one I recognize.
