Problem is, with a few exceptions, the best that a SM can hope for is a position as a TAC.
With that in Mind, Id say NESA or MAS

Ahem,

Civic Leadership Academy (http://level2.cap.gov/index.cfm?nodeID=5546)!

Definately the coolest NCSA in the world.

I'm just saying.

AFSCFC for me.  Either Colorado or California... Whichever is more about ICBMs.  Have heard Florida is more space and much less missiles.  Have also toyed with MAS in the past, but I dunno.

Should have tried for COS WIWAC... Another cadet from my old unit went and people apparently thought I was going too.

I'll be setting up the AFSCFC in CA and I'm an ICBM guy so there's going to be there will be plenty of ICBM stuff.  ;D
The CO activity spends a day at FE Warren so there is ICBM exposure there, but there's a chance the activity will be cancelled.

Not an NCSA persay but the National PAO Academy last year was probably the most worthwhile CAP event I have been to yet.

The chance to collaborate with many of my colleagues, the National PA team and learn from some outstanding PA practicioners was definately worth it and I will be going back next year.

Back to your Cadet Activity discssion.  ;D

Wow, I don't spend nearly enough time on this board...

I'm applying to go back to NBB. I figure since this is my last summer as a cadet, I might as well just have fun with it and do something I enjoyed last time.

Why not do something new...and expand your knowledge and expenses?

I had actually thought about saying the same thing last night, but didn't.  Now that you said it, lordmonar...

Seriously, if there is an "advanced" course to follow a "basic" course, then by all means, go.  i.e. PJOC one year followed by Advanced PJOC the next...  But I've heard of cadets going to NESA 5, 6 even 7 times, just to be on staff.  Again, it'd be one thing if they did GTM, GTL, then maybe went observe, but there are a ton of NSCA's out there, expand your horizons.

I attended my fair share of NCSA and it's really hard to compare them because they are all so different.

I had to vote for IACE though.  Who wouldn't want to go to a foreign country for a 2weeks for a few hundred bucks?

I definitely agree with C/Col Ducote.  IACE rocked.  Can't wait to do it as a senior member escort (maybe in the next couple years)!

I will miss Ducote at JFE...

Seriously though; Id like to ask, aside from being a TAC, how involved, activity wise, can a SM be at a NCSA?  (MAS, NESA excluded)

MAS and AFSCFC sound like winners to me.

NCSAs, with a few exceptions, exist for cadets. A senior is there in a support role not to be an active participant.  If a senior gets to participate in the "gee whiz" great but don't expect it that isn't why they are there.

I understand fully, thats kinda the point...
We have discussed this before but I say there ought to be National Activities for Seniors. ( I know about SLS/CLC/RSC/NSC etc)

Hopefully I'll be back this year again.  You didn't show up last year like you were supposed to!

Eh, it's not about expanding my horizons at this point. As some know, I'm in pre-med and attempting to do a psych major with a chem minor (apparently my counselor thinks I'm suicidal), so it's more just looking at it realisitically. In a year or so, I most likely won't have much time for ES anymore, so expanding my training in ES by going back to NESA wouldn't be of much use to me or anyone else. I would love to do something like PJOC, but frankly, I'm not in good enough shape right now and have been finding myself hard-pressed to find time to even study for my Spaatz award. The HGA is great for those that want to go, but I really could care less about Honor Guards, and I have almost zero interest in aerospace education, which erases pretty much the rest of the board.

NBB is an actual mission and generally chaotic enough to be different every time you go, so I don't really see it as doing the same thing over again, rather doing another unpredictable long-haul mission that is in the same place at the same time from last year.

I am considering attending ... suvival school instead, but I'm still checking into that.

Well if I can find something better to do locally in CAP...

I'd like to go to IACE (but this requires that I get my cadet programs specialty track and serve a certain amount of time as a DCC or some other similar role supporting the cadet) so I won't be seeing this for a few years so I can go as an escort, also it seems that you can only go once.

I'd also like to try NESA and NBB and tag along with cadets as escort/support at various NCSAs like PJOC (seriously I'd like to watch them do jumps, and maybe they might let me go for a ride while they do their jumps (sorry folks, I'm not interested in jumping anyway).

Right now I am not even considering any NCSA due to my limited walking/standing ability and not sure how others will accept that along with my "huh?" problem :D (which has been pretty bad lately, but that is being resolved slowly hopefully this next round of meds will do the trick).

I don't want to show up and find out that what I thought I could do would be impossible and then have to tell them that I wasted their time and should be heading home.  Which is why I never joined CAP until a friend of mine got involved first, he didn't do it for me anyway... he did it for his daughter who is a cadet and then thought I'd like to get involved. So far I've had good experiences, my favorite of all time in CAP so far is when I went to PANG (Portland Air National Guard) the cadets were on a tour and we got to stop at the fire station and the cadets got to ride in the green fire truck that you see around airports and operate the water jets :D anyway while I was there one of the firemen asked me if I wanted to try a 1/2 inch water line so I had a bit of fun doing that even though I am not a cadet.

I will never ask to do something, if they offer I wouldn't turn it down unless I am not comfortable with it.

But yeah... you bet I'd like to go to at least one NCSA if nothing else.

^ As a "semi-new" member, I reccomend Encampment Staff.  It will get you into the networking within the wing, and will be fun.  Nothing is better than spending a week at an Encampment, the rewards far outweigh the cost of attendance as a Senior Member.

I did that, don't get me wrong... I learned a lot and I got to participate and I've held multiple positions but I kind of was a "sideliner" in some ways partly due to the fact I couldn't do as many hours walking/standing with the cadets. I got to sit, take breaks whatever but thats not really the point and I won't get into it.

I elected not to go to encampment this year, however I may go again next year along with maybe going to at least one NCSA activity.

NESA cadets don't lie? That is a very broad statement right there, care for me to prove you wrong?

Get over yourself, and do it quick. You've been out of CAP for 3 years and you're acting as if you're CAP's greatest GTM that has ever been. Guess what, you're not and you're giving a bad rep to those of us who truly care about NESA.

I must have missed the announcement that only people without a sense of humor can post on CAP Talk. Please tell me that you are an 18 year old senior member without grade because you seem to have no idea between reality and jokes as well as taking yourself way too seriously. If you dont have a sense of humor about the job you are going to occupy a whole lot of CISM sessions later on.

Well, I didn't see any smileys on your original post, and it did seem a bit arrogant, based on your purported history. Hence, but commentary on your ego and what you need to carry it around.

I know some GTMs and GTLs here in my part of the world who have never been to NESA, but are still very well trained, and very good at what they do, so I don't consider that very fine school as the be all, end all of ES schools.

PJOC.

You could go to a classroom and learn about leadership from the books and the regs, or you could go out into the mountains and get a real lesson from some real animals. PJOC is the only NCSA where you get pushed beyond what you thought your limits were, and you just don't get that at COS or Blue Beret.
