Showing my age, huh? (42.) ;D

42, the answer to life, The universe and everything.  ;D

Google says so too.  You do a search for "what is the answer to life the universe and everything," and it does the calculations.

Nothing grates me more than leet-speak. Total and utter laziness in the grammar and spelling department.

Showing my age, huh? (42.) ;D

Two things grate on my last nerve more than leetspeak, simply because I see it more often..
1. Use of text-message style in *any* other form of communications
2.The misuse of:
a) to, too, two
b) there, their, they're
c) were, where, we're
d) weather, whether
e) affect, effect
f) accept, except
g) weight, wait

V/R,

You missed the worst one, very common on here and most other boards:

its, it's

It's even showing up in "professionally" done products and sites. Very sad.

Here's one I really don't get: 'the big 111.'  What does 'The big 111' mean?

Example:

"r0xorz th3 big 111 d00d!"

"Rocks the big 1!!"  instead of taking the time to use the shift for the exclamation point, you just type the number a bunch of times and you're supposed to understand...duh1

I don't know about everyone else, but I actually think that it helps get the "creative juices" flowing when your trying to figure out what is being said.  As well, I think that schools and/or parents should educate their students/children on when it is and is not appropriate to use leetspeak or any other form of shorthand communication.

For the record, no I don't write leet, but I try to understand it.  However I use instant messaging constantly and when talking to multiple people at once sometimes you need to type in shorthand and rather quickly to keep up, especially in group chats.  I would imagine chatting within a game is even more hectic.
