Post by: CadetProgramGuy on May 28, 2007, 09:19:47 PM
I am in need of a PDF to Word Converter, preferably a freeware or Shareware?

Anyone know of a program?

I use Adobe Acrobat Standard.  It's been worth the money.  I'm not sure if OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) does what you're looking for.  I think it does, but I'm not positive.

If you have something you'd like converted, I might be able to covert it for you.

I am not sure about converting PDF to Word, since it would also have to create images and such...

Look like NitroPDF, which my company uses, does it.  I never found any decent freeware/free and open source software for PDF manipulation beyond PDF creation.

I've found ways of doing it.  It requires saving it as different file types though.  it took about 3 or 4 saves though.

PDF Creator -- Free, friendly, and has multiple formats: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57796&package_id=53473&release_id=442172

Plus, it's searchable, i.e. you can search for words in your PDF documents created with it.

Adobe Acrobat Pro V8.0 is one of the offerings availalbe to CAP for $45 thru TechSoup.org.

Although I have not worked with it, Word 2007 is supposed to have a PDF creater/ conversion utility. Part of Office 2007 Pro availalbe for $20- but the ordering requirements for Microsoft are more restrictive than Adobe. Also requires sufficient RAM on your home computer

I have been very successful with a program called DocSmartz.  It costs around $30 but I have only found two documents that it won't convert.  Yesterday I converted a pdf file with multiple columns into a Word document, saved it as a .txt file, and converted it to a .dbf file.  The whole thing took about 5 minutes.

I'm not aware of any "freeware" programs that work this well.  Good luck.

There is a GREAT program, Cutepdf, that works from Word to a pdf file that is free.  The website is www.cutepdf.com.  I've been using it for a couple of years now.  The files can be read by adobe.

Alas in the end I may have to go buy one of those products.  All of the freeware/shareware/trial programs I tried could not get past 3 pages or the graphics.  Thanks anyways though!!
