I just read that article...  Inexcusable.  The base CO, and perhaps higher, should be held accountable.   I think that the former base CO who commented to the journalist should be investigated as well... I am sure that the base was is pretty rough shape when he was there too.

I doubt anything will happen. The newspaper has been doing investigative reports every other month or so. A few months ago they exposed a 100 million dollar scam where Officers were taking illegal pay offs on student loans

You mean this?

http://www.fresnobee.com/2011/03/26/2326038/neglect-festers-at-camp-roberts.html

That starts out with...

"Most California Army National Guard members who deploy to the killing fields of Afghanistan..."

Yeah, I kinda stopped reading after that.  >:(

The lead in to the story is a little cheesy but the problems described are very true

After being in the cavalry, all I can say is soldiers with toilets, showers, and some form of rigid structure over their heads are living the good life. :)

Also, Camp Roberts is not operated by the Air Force.  When constructing or renovating an air base the priorities are as follows:
1.  Quarters for the officers and their families
2.  O Club
3.  Golf course
4.  BX
5.  Commissary
6.  Swimming pool
7.  Movie theater
8.  Gym and sauna
9.  Recreation center (necessary for ski equipment and boat rentals)
10.  DOD School
11  Hangers
12. Runway
:)

And where are the enlisted folks and their families going to live?  :'(

On the other hand, Camp Roberts is where the satellite link (telephone and data) to Kwajalein is located... and if it breaks down we're screwed!

It's up on the hill and it's maintained by civilians, so it's safe.

I was at Keesler from Sep 86-Feb 87.  I was in the 3400 Technical Training Group in 207X1 school.  I can't remember the exact squadron anymore.  Keesler was a great base.  Had a lot of fun at the Airman's Club!!
